The audio link Fred referred to is located near the top of the Tuesday page:

http://www.naramlive.com/naramlive-...tuesday/04.html

The file is large but worth the download for those (like myself) that could not attend in person.

I glued some spin tabs on the Quest SPEV saucer legs, the tabs were glued to be exposed to the airflow through the holes in the upper shell. Anyway, the flight today on a Quest D5-0 was a carbon copy of the one below, it was flow in very little wind, and hardly spun. I also flew another SPEV on a German Quest C and it also was pointed downward (but not nearly as far) when thrust ended.

Has anyone else tried a modified SPEV?

Saucers are HORRIBLE on low thrust/long burning motors. They arc over. PERIOD.

If you increase air drag (like adding spin tabs) it will fly slower and arc over just as fast or faster.

The German C6 and the Chinese C6 have lower sustaining thrust than an Estes C6. They will arc over. Try an Estes C6-0 and it will fly better than with the D5-0P. The D5-0P in a saucer is a waste of money as the motor is burning/thrusting horizontally and downward. A simple Estes C6-0 flight will still be pointing upward when the motor burns out - or maybe slightly weathercocking if there is a cross wind - but it will not arc over and thrust toward the ground.

These D5-x motors sound like they might be good POWR-PRANGG motors for heavy rockets.
Sounds like a good PRANK motor to give to unsuspecting "friends"

I've made a few flights with my Tri-F-O on the chinese long burn C6 motors.

always a crowd pleaser, as the long burn and 'crackle' is unlike the generic Estes most local fliers have seen .
honestly, I know flights arced over, but figured in the wind - flew it on a C5-3 last time out, and think it arced as much as the Quest motor, so not sure I have a good comparison, maybe need to go fly a few

I'd never do that to any real friends....it was just a joke.
I did have a buddy that used to deliberately smack the side of motors with a hammer before giving them to people for a "free" launch at club launches in my youth.
With very few exceptions the rockets were destroyed on the pad.
He was sneaky enough to not do it to the same "customer" more than once though.

I knew it was, just giving you a friendly jab. I've done worse to family. I had my uncle arrested for indecent exposure during the middle of his wedding reception, had the father-in-law stand up and be the witness. I got the whole thing on video.......

best part was the sheriff who arrested him gave a police escort for the limo outta town....

small town USA gotta love it......

MAJOR Bummer that we never got to see these big Quest BP SU motors available to the public.

Bored tonight, GH? Seems the only reason to bring up a 9 1/2 year old thread. Though I do agree it's too bad we didn't see these motors.
