I hope the Interstage wrap on the SV has been corrected since the #1969 version.

Chris,

Have you been busy building pre-production Estes kits again?

I will be - but that's all I should say until the kit is released.
A detailed blog build will follow!

When I saw John Boren at NARAM 60, I commented that I was sure that they were going to do a new Saturn 1B when I saw the shock cord mount on the base of the blow molded LM transition. He laughed and said 'yes', but they still needed to do a new LM transition because the Saturn V one wouldn't work (not clear why).
I've also known a Skylab Saturn was in the works because John asked for help with Skylab scale info (I built a Sirius Saturn V Skylab several years ago).

I keep telling them I'd be happy to beta test any of their new scale kits but so far no joy

Yeah, gosh, I can’t imagine what would be wrong with the version of the plastic LM reducer they did for the 50th anniversary Saturn V. I did not get one of those, so I have not seen the item first hand, but the photos of it that I HAVE seen looked ok for use on a 1b.

The only thing about that unit that I did NOT like from the photos (and I have stated this several months ago in another thread) is that the surface detail they have molded into that reducer is way over scale compared to what was on the real Spacecraft Lunar Module (SLA) adapters. Up close, one can see those panel lines and substructure ‘stringers’ and such, but they do not show up ANYWHERE near as ‘obvoius’ as Estes now shows it.

The Apogee Saturn V and 1b kits also seem to have ‘over-modeled’ those same details as well, from the photos of those kits I have seen. I guess it (to some) looks ‘neat’ to see those surface deatails, but they just look overdone to me.

Earl, I don't think that's true. I have 3d printed LM transitions - supposedly modeled from original blueprints - that have that same level of surface detail (not to mention the Sirius Saturn V which also has a similar level of detail).

I agree the detail is there no doubt, it just does not ‘show’ as obvious (on the outside surface) of the SLA as they are showing it.

The ‘lines’ as they have them shown would probably scale out to about an inch wide and a quarter inch thick (or thicker) on a full-size SLA and those details are not that size on the ones I have seen on display at KSC, JSC, and Huntsville. One can see them from a relative close viewing, but any real distance away not near as much.

Now, the larger main panel vertical separation lines (four) ARE very visible, as well as the circumference separation line around near the base of the SLA and the panel hinges are VERY visible. But all those other details are overdone.
