Who is going to be up for these beauties?

I'm in for at least one apiece.

I would.

But under that heading of "Not Leaving Well Enough Alone", I'd like to Supersize the fins on SA-5 and add a DynaSoar to the top.

That would be cool. . . .

Default Interesting

But I have to wonder how much more cost it would have really added for Boyce to go ahead and include the necessary body tubes. Just the convenience alone (of me not having to chase down sources and pay extra shipping fees that would basically double the cost of the tubes) would be worth it.

Or am I just being an old crank again?

Having kits not include tubes makes even less sense than not including decals.
"Short" kits are a PIA.

I think Boyce not including tubes is a great idea.

This massively cuts what he spends on inventory, massively cuts down on his required storage space, markedly decreases the size and variety of shipping boxes he needs to stock, and cuts down on shipping costs. Final benefit is that he's not restricted to only offering kits with tube sizes he has to buy in big volume.

I compare Alex to NCR which pretty much concentrates on 2.6" airframe tubes because that's what Matt has to buy in volume. Similarly, his shipping boxes are pretty much one size, so kits are designed with that in mind. Storage space of all those tubes is a significant issue.

I think Alex and Sheree Boyce have done a great job of redefining the business model for large scale kits. They concentrate on producing great parts, way better than the old resin casted parts. Their idea to pre-sell enough of the Nike Hercules kits to be able to purchase very high quality 3D printers was brilliant. The cost/quality of their new parts is just amazing. And not including tubes is another great idea. Let the tube guys sell tubes and they will just concentrate on making parts.

I fully agree also, lightens the finished bird. It also makes it easier to paint and detail. It even reduces the price

They aren't builder kits for no reason. Lol

Just think also, he can sale the Apollo capsule as a Estes Saturn V replacement or any other 1/100 Saturn 1 SA7, 1B, V and Little Joe II.

For those that just want the fin can to build from or as a replacement for some reason, here it is. The transitions will be much stronger than paper to.

As I mentioned in another post, the time savings with his 3d parts is unbelievable in comparsion to total scratch build project.

On special order, these items could be even be up sized to 1/69, 1/70, 1/72 scale to build a even larger Saturn 1.

I had ordered all the tubes to build these same rockets to include the Saturn 1B about two months ago. Now I'm going with his 3d parts to complete my planed SA5 & 7 instead of doing a total scratch build from the ground up.

The only 3d part that I had was a Shapeway Saturn 1B fin can. I'm going to go ahead and finish that rocket as planed, but I will be getting his redesigned Saturn 1B in May for sure to build a 2nd one.
