Default Centuri Sabre Build Clone

Here is my 3 day build the Centuri Sabre Clone. I normally don't build clones since most old rockets are pretty easy to obtain over time. I have noticed the newer Centuri kits from the 80's that utilized Estes parts are hard to come by. My guess is there were not as many of those kits produced. Luckily I had all the parts to build this rocket including the older one piece nose cone. The decals were printed on my Alps printer. The first day was spent building the rocket, went together fast, simple build. The parts online were perfect when printed out as you can see from the wrap around marking guide. The next day I brushed on 3 coats of dope based sanding sealer and shot the Krylon Gloss white. Next day, masked the white and shot Krylon Red. I allowed the red to dry a few hours then applied the decals. Fast simple build, finished in 3 days.

Slick. Bill Cooke should have one popping up soon as well. We'll have tripled the flyable Sabres in the world in a scant few weeks.

Default Balsa Filler

That sure is a NICE build! Is that Sig balsa filler in the clear glass jar in the final picture? How do you like it for model rocket use?

Sincerely,
J.W.

It is actually just Sig Supercoat Dope with a little Aero 1 filler added, same as Brodak or Sig sealer. It is left over sealer I had from my model airplanes. I like the dope based sanding sealers, nothing comes close for ease of use and final results. I have tried papering fins, primer, Fill N Finish, water based sealers and nothing compares for what I am looking to achieve.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I will get some. Have built a few model airplanes in my time and can't wait to see how the sealer works on fins and nose cones!

Thanks for sharing your GREAT builds on the forum!

Sincerely,
J.W.

sigs-

Looks like the Alps printer does a pretty good job on the metallic colors. Good job on the clone.
