Default Centuri Buck Rogers Star Fighter-Decal Color(s)

Attached below are a few images from a vintage Centuri Buck Rogers Star Fighter I completed a couple years ago. It was a fun build with some decent challenges on the fiber parts (making sure all the fuzzies were gone during the painting and finishing process) and making sure everything lined up properly. The canopy was interesting too.

But what I noticed some time later is that, compared to the catalog images (catalog page scan below also), is that the decals in my kit were all a shade of gray instead of black. Finished model seems to look ok with the decals as they are though.

I am curious however if anyone ever built this either back in the day or maybe more recently as a vintage build such as this, and if so, what color decals did your kit have?

Earl

Mine are gray also. BTW, that's a beautiful job you did on the model!

I have an unbuilt kit. The decals are a dark gray, not jet black.
Lots of Estes models have decal colors that do not exactly match the catalog pictures.
Estes Cobra is an example. Face card shows metallic orange gold, decals are brownish orange and non metallic instead. Still a fun build though.

Well, it does look like the preponderance of kits came with the gray decals rather than the black ones, at least by this very unscientific 'poll'. I did notice that the Jimz plans decals appear to be black, so apparently there were some kits that had black decals. I also did a search on the net and found several images of built kits, but it seems all those had gray decals as well.

I guess it would be fair to assume then that at least one production run of the kits (and no telling how many that was) were produced with the gray decals. I have another sealed kit that I may try to get to and see if I can shake the contents around enough to see what color those decals are. Just don't know which bin it's in....

Thanks for the responses.

Great looking model for a series that, aside from Erin Gray, is essentially unwatchable today. The episode "Space Rockers" was on cable last night, and is considered by some critics as the worst sci-fi episode ever seen on television. MST3K we need you!

The Buck Rogers "Space Rockers" episode is so BAD, it has to be watched.
Jerry Orbach as a villain just doesn't seem right, nor does Richard Moll.

Now the episode with Ray Walston (Mr. Hand from Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Albert Popwell ( appeared in 3 out of the 5 Dirty Harry movies). and Gary Coleman is a good one.

Thanks for the comments.

As for the series itself, I am not sure that I ever watched a single episode all the way through. I have seen pieces of a few episodes enough to know that I really was not interested in it, but that Erin Gray was, indeed, a sure highlight of what I DID see.
