Default Return of FSI?

So, no comment from anyone here about the photos from over the weekend, posted on Facebook, of the old FSI supplies and equipment, that have apparently been purchased from the Reeses' by some members of KCAR for the purposes of resurrecting FSI??

I remember both the AVI products and the MPC products. We were dealers for both. I do think it possible there was only one or two runs of B3-5m motors (and B3-3m) reordering those always had a stock in condition, where some of the others had a waiting time once or twice. MPC was one of our more popular sellers.

We bought every size of AVI motor from 1/8A-F and the interesting thing to me was the build quality was very consistent and the sheer variety of sizes was amazing. So they were clearly targeting an aspect ratio in the design. Also many of them had the delay charge glued in in a smaller tube. That would be helpful for short run larger motors.

MPC, AVI, FSI and other BP motors of the time were often no better than about 90% reliability. Even Estes first generation motors like the D13 and E15 were similarly of modest reliability.

Seeing the stuff be saved from the dumpster makes me happy. The fact that didn't happen at Vern's house is sickening.

Dave Bucher just posted this on the OldRockets mailing list today:

I and my partner have purchased what is left of Flight Systems Inc. and will
relaunch first kits...the ones available in 1994 when the company ceased
production and we intend to do our best to get the production of the 21mm and
27mm motors and also the APC composite motors they sold over the years to
specialty customers. We also intend to expand the kit line into NARcomp MY
style with fiberglass competition models that I've been engineering over the
years. More later!

Hopefully, they can get better distribution this time around. FSI wasn't available in my neck of the woods, except by mail order. .

Dave Bucher did tell me they did NOT buy the 18mm and 13mm machines (or what's left of them).

Are they going to hand pack 27mm F100's, F7's and E60's like the old way ???
I would like to suggest updating them to a more modern 29mm dimension if so.
Hopefully with higher reliability and less cato's.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

I'm thinking the same thing on the dimensions, although adapting from 21 to 24 or 27 to 29 ain't that big a deal.

That said, I'm under the impression, if they want to improve the reliability of the high thrust motors, that some re-engineering needs to be done. Nobody wants to buy may-pops. Maybe fiberglass motor cases are needed.

As for the machines, I saw the pics on Facebook. They look pretty rough. I'm thinking they won't be much more help than a good set of plans for a new machine.

May-pop rocket motors ?
Are those made by the same company that makes May-Pop Radial tires ?
That same company makes Lakko mufflers for hot rods.
