jeffyjeep,
I bought two of these kits, but haven't started one yet. I'm thinking of doing built-ups after seeing your progress. I like the simplicity of using dowel for the spar across the middle of the fin. You mention using .015" thickness card stock. I have some 65 lb. card stock, but that measures .008". Looks like your card stock must be around 110 lb. or heavier, maybe? Does it seem about right, in other words, would you go with lighter or heavier card stock based on how your card stock seems to be working out?

The cardstock I'm using is actually posterboard, I believe, because of it's size, thickness, and finish. The reverse surface is just mill finish, but the obverse surface has a pearl finish--that I've already done a paint test on.
I don't remember where I got the posterboard from--possibly Blick Artist's Supply in Downer's Grove, IL. I've had this single sheet for many years. Here's the label from the corner. TBC

Now I've mounted and squared up the other (2) fins.
Fillets are next. TBC

For the fillets I've used 15 minute epoxy to allow for maximum seepage into the multimedia joint. I'll actually fillet the fins twice--once for seepage and once for appearance.
The model will be a cinch to finish now! I have to attend to "The Vixen"--she's in a snit about something. Probably something her husband did. Thanks for watching. Time for a Scotch and an IPA. Good night.

Many years ago a buddy of mine used to fly his Maxi-Brute HoJo on a FSI conversion kit for F100 motors.
He was the only person I knew that had a good non-cato rate with the old F100. I saw it fly at least 12 times successfully on the F100-6. Five of those flights happened in one day. That thing really FLEW on those ! Flights on a D12-3 seemed like a DUD compared to that big BP motor. I would imagine it would fly well on the Estes F15-6, but not nearly as extreme looking.

Darn you Jeffyjeep...
Here I am only days away from going to Asia, and you have to go and get me all excited about a kit that I likely won't be able to build for a month at least. Seriously though, Nice Job on the fins! Can't wait to see what you do for an encore.

Thanks! It will give you something to look forward to. Don't forget your Steri-Pen. Encore? Funny you should ask. I'm planning on building a Semroc Mars Lander with serviceable landing gear guts.

I know... the phrase should have been "undergoing fuzzification". .

The reveal.
and...............voila!
Here's the built-up fins with a coat of gray primer. Personally, I wouldn't have been able to hand-scrape a fin profile this crisp if my life depended on it.
