Estes must still use the string swing test not Rocsim. It is stable with an EJ F52 stock with no clay. The fins are huge. I believe the clay is used to optimize delays for the crippled motors they suggest.
Stop using thrust rings! Jerry Heck, at least they have a Goblin !!! May I buy 100? I used to buy their rockets 400 at a time. Last edited by Jerry Irvine : 08-11-2015 at 08:23 PM. |

Actually I don't use RockSim to design Estes models. I fly them to see what the stability looks like. I do however have to show a 1.5 Margin of stability on designs that I can actually create in RockSim. The Goblin actually has pretty small fins, although there are for of them! This being a Bring Back it had to meet the same 1.5 Margin of Stability. Quote:
Most fliers will loose this model using a D motor in the fields they fly at let alone an F52. Quote:
Sure you can buy 100, just go to the Estes or any other web site and put a 100 for your quantity. I's glad to see your back to saying negative things about Estes. It suits you better. John Boren |

JumpJet, Thanks once again for bringing back another classic for new rocketeers to enjoy, and of course myself. I would still like to see the Omega brought back, just because she is such a classic rocket. I brushed on 3 coats of balsa sealer, shot one coat of grey primer, 2 coats of gloss yellow and when she is dry I will shoot the black fin.

The Goblin looks sweet!
I never had one of these; I'd be tempted, but I have three Scorpions (clone or SLS Semroc) built and two more unbuilt. They a kin to the Goblin, in that if you fly with the largest recommended motor you'll likely never see it again. Someday I'll launch one of those with a E16-8, a motor close to the old Mini-Max end-burners.

Great work on the Goblin!
It's good to see a classic done right. The new plastic nose cone looks right to me. At the launch field, I don't think anybody would ever question a very subtle change in the shape anyway.

If it looks good, that is all that counts. I have a lot of kits to build so I don't mind flaws in my builds.......after the first flight there is always a small nick somewhere. I finished the Goblin today, the decals went on great and she looks just like the old Goblin, good job Estes. I used Rustoleum Rust Stop paints and primer.

JumpJet, 1+ on the bump for another Omega. Given the great improvements in micro-DV-recorders since Estes' last DV products, maybe it's also time for a revision to the Cineroc shell design to go along with it. It would be nice to have a modern microDVR in that classic housing, using either a USB or an SD card (or both!) to spit out the stream.
