Default C-130 Hercules

C-130 Hercules.
About twice a month, a C-130 Herkybird flies into Manchester, NH airport to do a few touch and goes.
My brother referred to them as smash and goes.
One came by today but only did one T&G and flew west back to New York to their base.

When my Father was an ATC in the USAF in Thailand, the base he was stationed at was home to the first operational squadron of the AC-130 Spectre Gunship. Awesome aircraft.
It was also home to the F-4 Squadron commanded by Col. Robin Olds

AKA Crash and Dash.

My experience is more with B-52G/H and KC-135 variants. Here at Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station Fort Worth Carswell Field (Carswell **** It) we get F-16s. F-35s, F/A-18s, C-130s, C-20s (737s), and visiting flying machines.
Carswell AFB was a SAC base with a double wing. Died with base closures with the end of the Cold War. For the youngsters, we won.

My father was a friend of a BUFF pilot back in the late 1960's.
His nickname was "Redd".
He was transferred to Manchester, then known as Grenier Field AFB.
He was a C&W musician. He played guitar and wrote some of his own music.
My father suggested I learn some of his music.
I refused because I was not interested.
My loss.

I would NOT call that a loss in the least, but a gain.
Better off not learning that pollution of the brain.

I used to live in a house near the runway for Hulburt Field in Florida. When a C-130 came in to land from the right direction, its landing gear were already down as they came over my house. They were so low that I could see clearly up into the wheel wells. The landing lights would lit up my front windows like a scene from Close Encounters!

And speaking of touch and goes, I recall day when a small jet was doing T&Gs at Hulburt. Every ten minutes for what seemed like hours, it flew past my house at a low altitude.

I lived near Hurlbert Field. I could throw a rock on the field.
I lived in Mary Easter, next to Fort WAlton Beach.
Small world.
I lived off on bloody 98.
You should know what that means.

I worked on the C130-E at Little Rock AFB during the 80's. I hardly recognize the new ones flying now.

Was TDY at Pease AFB, a SAC base. Did tours TAC, SAC and MAC. Every AF pilot had to do a certain amount of flying time per month, with different approaches for the type A/C and landings. A touch and Go (T&G) is considered a "landing." T&G was marked on the progress strip for approach, and each wheel touch down was recorded on that strip. Each was written by hand back then.
