For anyone new to the forum that may not be familiar with the older North Coast Rocketry kits, I uploaded 7 catalog scans to Ninfinger a while back and those are located here.

http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/NCRcats.html

I plan to finish my MINI KATANA either like the color image on page 24 of the 1990-91 catalog or like the black and white image on page 7 of the 1989 catalog. I may need to message Matt Steele to see if he knows the colors in the black and white image. It also appears too have a fin that is a different darker color than the other fins and airframe. I really like the way both catalog models look so I'm still undecided about which way to go ...

Anyone have any preference? I do like the old skool checkerboards but I also like the colors chosen for the 1990-91 catalog pic. I think both models look awesome!

[Please note these images below are not my own and came from the NCR catalogs that I scanned for Ninfinger that I referenced at the link above]

Steve,

Well, since two are being built, why not use both schemes?

Great thread!

Hey Steve-

Don’t know if you saw it, and I hesitate somewhat to mention it in the event you might have really wanted it and did in fact miss it, but there was a Mini Katana on eBay a couple days ago, unopened, for about $78, as I recall. It did not last long though.

I don’t know that I have ever seen one come up before.

Earl

Earl I didn’t see that but that’s okay 👌🏻
I am very satisfied with my BMS parts and my BTH-80 version I think will be well suited for my project. Had I seen it before I procured parts absolutely would have tried to grab an original with BT-26 tubing and the aerofoam cone. I even have some ideas for how to finish mine I think it will look super cool if I am successful when I get to the decal printing.

Steve, you're shaming me in to finally putting a paint job on my wreck...
I think I'll go with the color image in your post.

At least you get to paint it after you damaged it! I found another image of the MINI KATANA I’ll try to post it tomorrow but I think it’s a more difficult paint scheme.

I still have some clear & black checkerboard adhesive backed monokote that YORF member Rocketflyer gave me years ago for another project so I’m still tossing back and forth on the final decor. I’m sure I’ll change my mind ten times before I’m ready for paint.

On another note the Quadrunner and D16 motor order from Belleville from a month ago finally moved in shipment now in St Louis, MO.

I have to say I have fallen in love with with these little plastic donuts
My first time using these tube cutting guides and a few quick twists of the tube in my hand with these attached to the tubes and my 70+ year old blade made quick work of the job of cutting 8 tubes. Perfect.
Kudos to Estes for such a simple yet effective tool
