Thanks Johnathan. I have enough Malarone for 60 days--after that I'm coming home whether the project is finished or not. I won't risk "The Fever".

Besides, after 60 days of Equatorial India, I'll be a non-functioning, slobbering drunk anyway.

Here's a shot from my quarters. From this height it doesn't look too bad, but down at street level---Aye, Carumba!

Glory! My SteriPen is working again! It just needed batteries (DUH!)

I couldn't read the low battery LCD without my glasses on--so it's not my fault.

Hey jeffy, would you post some shots at ground level? Maybe some photos of some of your "haunts" during your stay? The people and things you see every day.

I, and I think maybe some other folks, would be very interested to see what you see and do while in India. A little vicarious living for us folks stuck on the treadmill.

I have a very good friend who's set up water treatment plants in Morocco, the Gaza strip, Syria and Lebanon. His stories of the people he met and things he saw and did are fascinating to hear, however, he never took photos which would have helped put them in context.

If you have the time and inclination, it'd be much appreciated. If not, it's understandable.

Success to you and the job. Stay well.

I second that - I'm very curious.

It'll be a pleasure! In fact, since we didn't work today, my Indian counterpart took my crew and myself to a 1000 year old fortress and temple complex about 60 clicks away. I'll dump my camera and do a photo spread tomorrow.

Here's a few shots from street level, taken from the car. Traffic was light since it's Sunday (the ONLY day they don't work).

The piles of rotting garbage and red/brown dirt are pretty much the norm. Moo-cows, goats, feral dogs, and feral pigs are everywhere and all of them root through the garbage. It was 98F yesterday so the smell was quite "robust".

If I was "Lord and Master" of India, these would be my first five royal decrees:

1) Pick up the f***ing garbage!
2) Use birth control! (there's 1.2 billion people in a country 1/3 the size of the US and the place smells like they all fahted at the same time.)
3) Any moo-cows that aren't pulling something, carrying something, or producing milk, GONE!
4) Pick up the f***ing garbage!
5) Learn to f***ing drive!

Disclaimer: the preceding list is intended for humorous purposes only--I don't actually have a political agenda in India.

Hmmm. Kind'a reminds me of the Anacostia side of DC. Do a lot of folks speak English? Can you get a hamburger or steak? What with the cows being sacred an' all.

Interesting that the womenfolk ride "side saddle."

Thumbs up Good stuff

Facinating post and pictures, Jeffy. Thank you. Never been there (India), but I don't think I'd like to go, for any reason. Wonder how many folks get attacked by the feral dogs, and especially the pigs? Nasty creatures. Get back safely.
