No burgers. No steak. No pork.

Most people do speak English--but it's hard to understand. Still, their English is far better than my Tamil. There's over 900 completely different languages spoken in India, so most people learn English as an "equalizer".

Although primarily Hindu, you may want to keep a weather eye out since the events in Afghanistan this weekend.

Sage advice. Thanks. There is a sizeable Muslim population in this area and THIS gigantic (by Indian standards) white guy coudn't look more like an American Christian if he tried.

Definately drink the beer. More sterile as a liquid just have to worry about how clean the bottle is. In PI we had to wipe the tops of the San Miguel botlles so we would not get the S&^%^$#@ts, sure hope they are making it worth your while Jeffy. Chief

Indeed--it's "equally outside" to all of the ethnic groups, so it doesn't anger any of them as trying to make Hindi, Tamil, or Bengali the common language would. Even so, the Indian government is trying to promote Hindi as a national language--the annual reports of ISRO (the Indian Space Research Organization) mention Hindi proficiency awards for ISRO employees and their children.

The typical veg. diet here is lentils, onions, cauliflower, rice, fruit, flat breads, and various curry gravies. The typical non veg. diet is the same thing but with the addition of chicken, goat, mutton, and fish. You're right: I DO draw a lot of attention. The locals aren't used to seeing 6' 5" tall, pasty-white, tattooed, loud-of-mouth, American flatlanders!

On Sunday, my Indian counterpart had our driver take my crew and myself to the Brihadisvara Temple and fort complex about 60 KM away for the afternoon. The oldest portions of the stoneworks are bass reliefs are 1000 years old. The Raja Raja (king of kings) of that dynasty had it built to glorify himself and his reign.
