Default AVI Space Angel plans?

Hello All,

Does anyone here have the plans and fin patterns for the AVI Space Angel (see: http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/nostalgia/73avi04.html ) two-stage Miniroc kit? When Estes releases the new-production A10-0T mini booster motors, it will be a great two-stage model to use them (even if replicated using BT-5 instead of the MPC/AVI/Quest 15 mm diameter tubing). It would probably wring good altitude out of A3-4T and A10-3T motors when flown as a single-stager, too.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help (and if you can, please also shoot a copy of the material over to Scott so that all model rocketeers can benefit from it).

I don't have one, but if you're using Quest/MPC/AVI T-15 tubing, you will still need some BT-5 equivalent for a motor mount tube. Also, you should use some vent holes in the booster because the MPC Minijets were 2.25" long. If you don't find those plans, try the old Estes Beta (TK-45), the Estes Midget (TK-40) or (K-40), or the Mini-Cobra (0898). The Beta and the Midget (K-40) fly pretty well as two-stage models. I haven't tried flying my Mini-Cobra with both stages yet.

I still have 30 A10-0Ts from the previous production runs.

I still have a bunch of B3-0's too in addition to quite a few A10-0's.

You can probably get pretty reasonable facsimiles by tracing and upscaling the ninfinger pic.

<timeout...Jeopardy music playing...time-in>

Here, I rotated it and scaled it (setting the BT OD to 15mm). This oughta get you pretty close. (Make sure you print it with no scaling.)

I agree BT-5 is a reasonable substitution, but keep in mind, this thing will likely be out of sight when staging off an A10-0T booster. So bring lots of eyes

Also, with the fins all the way aft on the booster, it will surely be stable and come in ballistic. Be prepared for it to accordion itself

[Edit] Oops, here are the other dimensions:
Booster len: 3.4"
Sustainer BT len: 9.8"
NC len: 2.8"

I thank you all very much for your replies, and Doug for scaling the AVI catalog illustration! Similar to the way that lunar craters in photographs can look like either depressions or bumps depending on the viewing angle, the Space Angel's delta second stage fins can look like either 30/60/90 degree right triangles or like they have slightly forward-swept trailing edges (I think the former is the case, but either one would work fine aerodynamically). I'm pretty sure the first stage fins are the classic clipped delta with zero trailing edge sweep, and that's easy to "derive" thanks to Doug's scaled image scan.

Whether the model was flown two-stage or single-stage, I wouldn't use a parachute as the original AVI Space Angel did (due to excessive drift and packing space constraints in the narrow body tube). The ideal recovery device would probably be a Starlight Model Rockets 1" X 12" aluminized mylar streamer.

My Beta didn't clear the rod before it staged with the 1/4A3-0T. That model looks twice as long.
