In fairness to California, it has *no* place like Detroit, where entire neighborhoods have been abandoned and bulldozed, so that much of the city is now "urban farmland." I view the different states (with their different ways) as I view the books in a library, or the variety of foods in a grocery store--there's something for everyone. Regarding the MPC/SAI body tubes:

I very much miss the Centuri and Estes brown kraft paper tubes (which were virgin kraft paper, with full-length fibers), as today's recycled kraft paper body tubes, containing shorter, chopped fibers, are softer than the brown virgin kraft paper tubes. But the MPC/SAI body tubes were even harder and stiffer than the old Centuri and Estes tubes. If that was due to a different outer wrap (maybe it contained more glassine, or some kind of resin?), perhaps the recycled kraft paper tubes could be upgraded to be similar to the MPC/SAI tubes in consistency and strength (and being able to sand their seams away would be a *very* welcome "fringe benefit!"). Maybe someone with chemical analysis expertise could analyze an MPC or SAI tube to "reverse engineer" whatever it was that gave them those positive, useful characteristics?

IT IS MORE ACCURATE TO SAY LOTS OF COMPANIES INCUBATED HERE, THEN AS SON AS SUCCESS HITS, GOT OUT OF DODGE (CALIFORNIA). Ace out, now EAC in FL. AT out, now in Cedar Glen, UT, even illegal Kosdon tried to show HQ at Kosdon East or AMW (East Coast). USR has diversified to another state and two countries. Plasmajet IL. Many other examples. The ones that didn't move, died.

CA is truly evil toward business. Especially rocketry.

Comedian/talk host/actor Dennis Miller and actor Craig T. Nelson have both publicly said that they've about had it with the state's attitude toward free enterprise (taking such big bites out of their earnings), and that they will move to other states if they have to fork over more of their earnings. It is definitely a place that generates and attracts innovators (Silicon Valley is just one very famous example). The firearms companies and vendors there are also being legally pressured to leave the state or go out of business. It's sad, because California is a "natural" place for both activities to thrive in safety (to others), if the powers-that-be would just leave them alone. Even SpaceX is gradually moving its operations from California to Texas.
