Default Kinda Cool

I was thinking of bidding on this. Brings back old memories. Kinda cool, too!

Awhile back, I picked up a bunch of ViewMaster sets from my childhood and a projector. Turned out the lights, slid in the discs --- and BAMMO! Transported right back to my basement, with the pictures projected onto an old sheet I'd hung up, and dreaming that someday I'd see those places with all the missiles, and set foot on the Moon like the astronauts in the pictures.

Flash forward to today: I've indeed gotten to all the places in the pictures, with the exception of the Moon. 'fraid that one won't happen, unless someone works out that whole "Step through a wormhole and there you are" thing. But at least the ViewMasters can take me back to a moment when I dreamed it would all happen some day.

Don't resist the impulse. Buy a set or two. Enjoy the trip back. I heartily recommend it.

Went for $13 plus shipping is all, including the viewer.

I had (may still be at my mom's house) a special edition one in a big box that had a 3D pic of the Apollo 11 landing on top of the box.

Now I want one. I'm sure I had one as a kid as I was a space geek and I had a ton of View-Master disks. I loved those things.

This is interesting:

I wonder if it really was true that "the View-Master brand name would eventually come to be recognized by 65 percent of the world’s population." If so, that's amazing.

How did that work? Did you somehow use the viewer to see the 3D image?

Thanks Joe!
My wife was wondering what the recent PayPal charges were for, and the several packages that mysteriously arrived last week.
When I told her they were a couple of sets of View Master slides, and some viewers she just looked at me and shook her head, muttering something about a second childhood.
It only took me a second to respond saying it was Joe's fault.. he planted the seed!

No, remember those pictures they used to have that appeared to be 3D and or/moved as you looked at it from different angles? That's what I'm talking about.

Of course you know, I was gonna ask if the box got crushed when the Apollo 11 landed on it.
