I think I'll go with flat gray enamel for the underside and landing gear and metallic silver for the saucer.

I just took the easy way out and used some Krylon silver foil spray that I had from another project on the whole thing. It's really shiny until you touch it, then it gets dulled down. Residue from the propellant burn-through (if you use a booster) gets the top kinda dirty fast. This one has, I think, three flights on it now.

(There's one coat of Rusto 2x white primer underneath the Krylon)

It's masked off and ready for the underside to be painted.

My testing just started, so results are not conclusive, but I brushed Future/Pledge Acrylic Floor polish on a nose cone painted with Testors Silver spray paint, and a day later it looked absolutely the same — a nice shiny silver. I’ve got a pretty wide variety of silver paint, and plan to test each one. But I’m guessing that they will be look fine.

Thanks! I've now shot the underside with Model Master Light Sea Gray flat enamel. I used this color for a very specific reason: it's an old can I needed to use up. It's going to need a second coat. I hope I have enough.

and..................voila!

I've shot the saucer with 2 coats of Rusto metallic silver and then brushed it with 2 coats of acrylic floor polish and now the intrepid Jupiter II and it's brave crew (except for that insufferable, cowardly, Dr. Zachary Smith) is ready to "get lost" again.

"Oh, the pain! The pain!"
