Hey Earl-
Any luck finding some mid-70's, mid-60's, or 50's Xacto catalogues ? Would REALLY like to see anything pre-1949 or pre-WWII.

No, not so far. Anything I find I do announce and scan for posting, but have not found any additional catalogs in any years. But I'm keeping my eyes open. Earl

Picked up a great score of vintage 60's Xacto blades on ebay that included multiple packs of original "wide edge" #24 and #19 blades, packs of #13 micro saw and #15 keyhole saw blades, #28 hook blades, #22 curved blades, #23X double edge blades, #16 blades, #4B stencil blades, #18 Chisel blades, #26 3"blades, #2 asstd blade pack, gouge blade pack, router blade pack, #18 chisel blades.
All are full unused packs and none are corroded. I paid the whopping sum of $12.95 + $8.95 shipping for at least $150 worth of blades. I really need to start building more, but I do have 3 new vintage RC kits I picked up cheap too. All pristine... Another Sig Kougar Mark II, A Prather Little Toni 1/4 Midget pylon racer, and a Sig Minnow 1/4 midget pylon racer. All with FOAM wings which makes for quick builds. The pylon planes are getting piped Cox Conquest .15s that scream at about 27,000 rpm and will hit close to 200mph in level flight. The Kougar is getting either a vintage piped OS .61 VF ABC or OS .61 RF ABC-P. The last Kougar I built has a piped OS .61 RF ABC-P and has much greater thrust than weight. All should be fun. I have been spending far too much on ebay lately, or at least Joanna thinks so. I told her what I have been buying is far cheaper than a LSX 427 engine or Supercharger for the Corvette.

Yesterday I was able to snag a 1980 Xacto catalog. I also got another Xacto catalog which appears to be from the early 80s, but I was not able to discern a date on it from the ebay listing photos. It was listed as being only 11 pages, so this second item may not be a 'full-blown' catalog.
In any event, once the 1980 catalog and the other item are delivered (maybe about a week) I'll scan and forward to Scott for posting. Earl

Sounds great about another catalog.
Seems really weird that little has been found from the early to mid 70's. I'll be really interested if you find anything pre-WWII or during WWII. Have you ever contacted Xacto/Elmer's about that ? Maybe they have some scans ? All the new "old" blades I just got have store price tags on the packs. 47¢, 41¢, 32¢, 81¢, etc. Must be from the 60's at latest. None are as high as $1.

Sometime last fall I contacted the current owners of the Xacto brand and they have nothing, unfortunately. Somewhere, when they were probably still headquartered in Long Island City, NY there was probably an entire file cabinet of all their catalogs and various sales brochures that got tossed out when they moved out of there. Yes, I would really like to get a few of the catalogs from about 71 through 75 or so, but so far I have found nothing in that range. Other than some random internet searches (which generally brings up much of nothing), it really just is a waiting game on what comes up for sale on ebay. Earl

In my last ebay shipment of blades noted above, it came with a curious tube of small blades.
It contained small versions of the #24, #23X double-edge, and #19 blades to fit the #1 handle. I don't think they are X-acto brand. No numbers are found on the blades. If they are X-acto, they would have to be pre-1949 as nothing in the catalog from then on shows any such blades. They are clean, sharp, and appear unused. It contains 2 of the #24 style, 2 of the #23X style, and one of the #19 style.

Hey GH, those appear to be Grifhold blades. I have several of their knives and a couple of their knife sets that Centuri sold (two knife set in a clear plastic case with two tubes of various blades for each of the knives which were Grifhold #7 and #8 knives which are very similar to to the Xacto #1 and #2 knives). But those blades look like the Grifhold blades. Earl

I thought Grifhold might be the manufacturer.
Xacto blades always have a round or slotted hole in the blade aft end was the clue to me might be Grifhold. ProEdge and Excel blades are clones of Xacto blades with the slots. Excel kept their #24 and #19 blades in the classic "long edge" shape that Xacto dropped sometime in the mid 70's. Always good to have different blades. I have been looking for one of their #123 handles which Estes used to refer to as a #2RX retractable blade knife. They NEVER show up on ebay, but lots of blades for the #123 handle do.
