Elastic Rubber Shock Cord
Elastic Rubber Shock Cord
I'm repairing some rockets that need shock cords. I checked many stores and found only cloth elastic cords. I had some in my hands at a LHS, but didn't want to pay $5.00(+Tax)In Mass. for three feet of rubber cord. The LHS here NH are closed on Monday's. I have Kevlar cord I could trade for Shock Cord.

IIRC, some hobby stores have “contest rubber” for powering stick and tissue airplanes. I don’t know how wide it is, but I think its the same composition as Estes rubber shock cord.

Braided elastic is far better than any "rubber" shock cord.
In the words of Chico Esquela: "Rubber no good. Rubber Break. But I cannot talk about that". (wondering how many will get that reference ).

BTW - Braided elastic is easily found in fabric stores, such as Jo-Ann. Also, Micheals.
At fabric stores like Jo-Ann, they often also have big spools where they sell by the foot, especially 3/16" and bigger. But, only get braided. NEVER "Baby-stretch", which breaks too easily.

How well does the braided hold up?

Holds up fine. The round is better than flat. eBay sells it, I bought 1/8” x 100’ for $18.99, they have 3/16” and 1/4” too. Search on “round elastic shock cord”.
