Do you wash your can goods?
Do you wash your can goods?
I do. Here is the story. In the mid 90's, I worked for a major drink operation on the production floor. One night they shut us down to clean the place. A little girl died of a ailment from drinking our product. They traced it to mouse pee on the can. It never went public or to trial. The family was well compensated. I now clean every can I touch.

My pantry is in the garage, so the cans get a patina of dust on them very quickly. I always clean the top before I open them.

Wife of an old boss worked for CDC as a microbiologist and at a party she mentioned that we really should scrub the lip of any soda or soup/veggie cans. I do, most of the time. Some grungy stuff comes up occasionally.

I do rinse off the top of cans to be on the safe side.

I wipe the top and ring of my Beer Cans but if they looked real dirty I would rinse them off first.
As far as canned food I never eat right out of the can so every thing gets heated real well before it go's in the pie hole.
