X-15
This is coming and I will definitely have to have a couple.
https://www.apogeerockets.com/Model...ocket-Kits/X-15 https://www.apogeerockets.com/Advan...ketry_Video_316 I always thought ESTES should have done one of these a long time ago. I wonder why they didn't? |

Didn't Estes have one but recalled it because it was only marginally stable at best and in the end actually was involved in a fatal accident? I seem to remember one about 10 years ago.

They did do a plastic one that was involved in an accident at a Scouting launch, but not a fatal. That was a school demo launch. I thought it was a home built rocket, but it's been a while.

You're right. I must have been mixing the two. It's been awhile and many drinks ago. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/201...nded-by-rocket/ Estes did recall it and the recall was actually before the accident too.

ESTES did make a small plastic X-15 years ago and they issued the old Cox X-15 which was recalled. What I meant was why didn't they make a nice buildable scale model of the X-15. This has always been a popular subject.

The Estes re-issued Cox one was the one that was recalled.
Estes original small "firing line" one never had any issues. That one lasted til the early 80's in catalogs, but only as a RTF starter set.

Hey, Mole, saw that baby a few hours ago to include the first build video myself. May be one of the best models of the X15 ever built besides the One that a person named Paul Clark offered many moons ago under SPACECRAFT > BRITISH MODELS. That one was 1/20th Scale.
Here is a link to the Delta Wing version one he offered: https://forums.rocketshoppe.com/sho...ight=delta+wing

I have one each of the Clark kits. I have had them for years. Over the years I drag them out and tell myself I'm going to try to build them. Then a day or two I put the parts and instruction back into the box and put them away.
I have the SNG X-15 kits and think seriously about building the BT-80 size one but there's something funny about this kit to me. I have always had good luck with Apogee rockets. |

grammar nazi (way off subject)
Quote:
Go ahead and tell me I'm nuts, but spelling and grammar problems (like those all over this apogee page) drive me nuts. Always makes me stop and wonder how smart the writer is, and if the products are any good. I know, I'm overdoing it. But it is SO SIMPLE to get right. Or did they flunk 4th grade grammar? The kit looks cool. I might even get one. The stability problems with configurations like this are significant, so anyone building should heed the warnings about overbuilding the rear end. "aircrafts" REALLY?

Paul's kit would look great setting around, Apogee kit would be better in the air
I had the Delta wing model and the V2 from him to. Sold them both on ebay a few years ago. I added a picture to that post link when it was up Post #14 I'll most likely get the Apogee one myself to.
