Vintage Estes Space Plane restoration
I acquired this old plane on eBay for a decent offer and I am going to finish for flight. I know I am going to apply a thin coat of balsa sealer to smooth it out a bit but trying to decide if I want to paint, or just leave it as is. I found a picture online with an old one built with just the nose cone painted. I have some old flat Pactra dope I could use for red glider with black nose...….I will have think about this. I have the original kit still in the bag, and will someday build that one.
I plan on finishing this rocket before moving onto my next vintage build. |

I painted my Semroc CC Space Plane with Pactra Aero Gloss Cub Yellow dope with a Stearman Red nose cone. The Cub Yellow was a Spray can of Aero Gloss and the nose was shot out of my airbrush.
It added next to zero weight with 4 coats of yellow and 3 coats of red. Dope properly thinned and sprayed weighs FAR less than any enamels.

It is so light that if you inhale deeply while prepping and spraying, you will think you're floating.
