Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand back to the original topic:

Tonight I finished this Optima. The fins have (3) coats of water-based eRockets sanding sealer and with NO first coat of balsa fillercoat.

Works for me. Opinions and results may be different.

About the same. The balsa of this Optima kit was quite hard and tight-grained. If it was a little softer or looser it might have required 4 applications.

BTW, here's the Optima. I scratch built it with:

1) TTW fins.
2) 29mm engine mount.
3) instead of gloss black, I painted the upper BT80 and PNC with gloss black metallic.

Thanks! When you paint your's, if you need any metallic orange adhesive film let me know. I have a few yards of it.

The Optima looks really nice! Is the name decal vinyl, or waterslide? I thought maybe it was all Stickershock but you mentioned having leftover orange film.

The decal is an old one from Sandman (I bought a few of them when he was still able to print them.) The metallic orange adhesive film is an exact match that I found somewhere, and the chrome strips I slit from a large sheet of chrome adhesive film.
