I think this is the first time I’ve Built and flown a rocket before it’s on your Blog. You often inspire me to get a kit you did, so Thanks! Mine flew great and a B6-4 (B6-2 if it’s windy) works great for 20 second glides even though it’s not listed, you’ll need a big field or no wind with the C, I tried a C and the glider was up almost a minute. |

Did you have to trim it at all or does it fly that good as is?

No trim at all. After I flew it a few times my daughter squished it a bit and it spiraled in. After I straightened it again it flew well again. |

I had one glide for well over 2 minutes on one C powered flight. It hit a thermal and stayed in it for a while.

I understand that, which is why we're all lamenting the loss of the 29mm Es and Fs at HL now that they've dropped the Star Orbiter, Majestic and Ascender. They no longer sell anything that uses the 29mm motors. But the question I had posed earlier was why did they retain C6-0s and clearance out B6-0s? At the time I speculated they were going to get something that needed the C boosters....such as Boosted Bertha. The little Epic II is an almost sure loss with a C in the booster and would challenge a lot of fields even with a B first stage. The larger, heavier Multi-Roc is still pushing things with a C in the first stage. Both models would be better served (and gives Estes the chance to sell more booster motors) if what HL stocked was B6-0s if they had to choose one. This is why I was, and still am, a bit puzzled over the choice.

The reason they discounted all the old stock was so the new stock with the new sticker prices could be put into place. As for actual final motor selection I personally have no control over that so I assume it was a store\sales person choice on which motors to carry to go with the current selection of rockets.

Thanks for the engine info. I thought I might launch the Solo first with a B6-2, I'd be happy with a shorter "glide". The C6-3 is the only recommended engine.

I made two flights with B6-2s and it was going up at a good clip at ejection. The four was maybe slightly over the top but was more satisfying. I was flying in virtually no wind so take that into account. I also doubled the length of the shock cord so the delay is more forgiving. Good luck! |

John, I know this isn't your department. It's something Angela or even Bill might or whoever is working with big accounts, do in coordination with the management at HL instead. Whoever made that odd choice neither you nor I can likely change it. I suppose I can, simply as a customer, tell them that I'd love to see them start stocking B6-0s again (in this case). It can't hurt.
