Interesting offering from BMS...
You guys seen this? I just ordered one - can't go wrong for $6.00!
Clone Kit of the Month Club Now get new release BMS Clone kits at 50% off retail BRAND NEW FOR 2008 - CLONE OF THE MONTH CLUB! For years, I have thought of doing a "Clone Kit of the Month club" and as a New Years resolution this year, I decided to finally do it! This will not, however, work like the traditional "book of the month clubs" where if you subscribe you will automatically receive your book unless you take some action to refuse it. With this club, you will receive nothing unless you click the "buy" button. Nothing will be mailed to you automatically. On the contrary, if you are not interested in the monthly offering, just ignore the offer. Maybe next month's offer will be to you liking. Although in general "Clone of the Month kits" will be available as standard BMS clone kits, in the future, the very special pricing will only apply for one week after this email. Pricing will typically be 50% off the normal retail price. We can offer this low price because the production run will not be scheduled until all orders have been received. Kit production costs are all about quantity & scheduling. You will receive your kit approximately three weeks after you place your on-line order. You can expect a faithful re-production of the original kit using modern materials with the following exceptions: All fins & tubes will be precision laser cut. All kits that originally had decals will come with Water slide decals matching the originals. If Instructions are not supplied a URL pointing to the appropriate website where the instructions can be found will be given. Unlike standard BMS clone kits "clone of the month" kits will not be supplied with a parachute. This helps keep costs down and virtually no one in the target audience for these kits needs yet another "assembly required" plastic parachute! You can always, of course, order a chute to go with the kit if you want as a separate item from our website. This Months "Clone of the Month" is the old "FSI VIKING 1" It is a "tube fin" stabilized Rocket built around a heavy wall BT50 tube (BT50H). Comes with water slide decals! Originally supplied with 12" plastic parachute. Parachutes, as always, are omitted from "Clone of The Month Kits" Click here to order FSI Viking 1 Rmember your clone kit will arrive approximately 3 weeks after you place your order. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions at all. Also feel free to forward and/or post this email so that others not on our initial mailing list may join. Sincerely, William Saindon Balsa Machining Service ________________________________________

I hope these kits will be tested for stability. IIRC the original had a pine or birch nose cone that weighed quite a bit more than balsa wood. Also , the original had 21mm motors, so I assume this is a larger tube (Bt-50) and will have an 18mm motor mount tube? Or will it be designed for 24mm motors?

Interesting . . . I made a Viking II clone from the same 24mm tubing. Very sturdy and stable, but it *did* have a heavy hardwood cone.

Hardwood cones are very poplar. They can be a birch to turn.

My original FSI OSO kit has the birch/hardwood nosecone and, man, let me tell you it's heavy! So heavy that the last time I flew it (the first launch in the refurbished/rebuilt
mode after the F7-6 NAR OOP motor testing disaster) the payload/nose section's mass ripped the parachute's plastic material from the shroud lines and the model free fell, sustaining minor damage. Hey Bill, put my e-mail address on your list so I can get these notifications, too!
