Default R2D2 Android: A Scratch Design - Scratch Build

I've been working on the design of this one, and think I have a workable design.

It uses a 4" nominal body, with custom turned nose cone and bottom transition. Legs are 1/4" plywood.

It's a semi-scale model. The feet have holes to allow the air to channel thru... think square tube fins.

The swing test should be revealing, base drag and nose weight are key.

This is another rear eject spool design.

If you can 3D print, I have the bits to replicate the Estes 1301 R2D2 Robot Hero rocket on Printables. Also has nosecones for R4, R5 and R6 droids.

4 inch upsscale versions are in the works.

Instead of a Conspirator, how 'bout a COLLABORATOR instead ??

Default Nose Cone Turning

I used a piece of the trunk from a Pinyon Pine we cut down on our property back in 2016. It cleaned up to about 4-1/2" dia. and worked well for the 4-1/8" nominal diameter nose cone.

Smells really nice too. Just right for a dapper R2 unit.

Weighs in at a hefty 13.9 ounces. That's a full 3 ounces heavier than pine.

You better plan on at least a high-thrust E motor to fly that thing.
An F50 would be better.
