Hi 5x7, SST Shuttle: I have both versions the cc: and the xKit but don't have any opened bags & don't want to open them yet. I fiddled with the bag for one of the xKit bags & was able to see that it showed the following dates inside the abbreviated xKit instructions : July 25, 2005 (cc: Kit) May 3, 2008 (xKit TM) Boy, Carl was extremely organized !! So the cc: Kit came first, and the xKit afterwards. Sheryl may be able to elaborate for us on some of the history of both the cc: (carbon copy?) kits and the xKits and the issues they had with them. Swift-BG : I have kit #8, and can easily see thru the bag that the back of the instructions shows the following date: August 1, 2009 If someone else doesn't get the others, I may be able to do some more digging later. |

Wow that’s great, thanks!!!
The cc kits went to hobby shops and were sold alongside their other kits. The kits indicated the instructions had to found online, like at Jim zs. Carl would get calls that the sites were down or they didn’t have access to a computer so the support needed ended the cc line. Xkits were only sold online so it solved the computer part and there was less to support. Estes made a trademark claim on a bunch of the names so Carl discontinued a bunch but did eventually put a bunch back up for sale he had taken down. He indicated if a kit was popular he would release it as a regular kit. This forum, TRF, and e-newsletter releases (Semroc minute and the Christmas Letter) have been valuable sources for info on Semroc v.2. I am getting close to having ballpark release dates for all the Semroc NC releases except the commemorative ones. |

Yes, I don't know if it was the same time, but I seem to recall that Carl was very worried about a sternly written legal threat made against Semroc from Estes, kind of a Goliath vs David thing, but I thought that for some reason Estes backed down, and there was some kind of understanding expressed from an Estes representative to allow Semroc's offerings to continue. |

I’m a bit envious of your xkits, below is a Semroc Spaceman Xkit package, just plane Jane, nice parts but no text at all inside the paper, just the laser cut fins.
