I may have to pick up one of those Cherokee-E kits.
Is that just a lengthened Cherokee-D, or is the tube upscaled to BT-60 ?

Some observations.
None of the kit packaging notes what/which motors are to be used with each kit. The Epic II is two-stage (I think that answers Bernie's question). It looks like a re-painted Sterling Silver kit. The Solo is a 'Single-Ringer' as compared to the Double Ringer kit using that BT-56 plastic fin unit.. The Cherokee-E has an 18" long body tube PLUS a 6" body tube (All BT-55). It appears to use the fins and body tubes from the Magician (#2440) kit and add a 'Cherokee-D' nose cone instead of the payload section. The motor prices were pretty good. A three-pack of C6-5s was $6.99. A three-pack of B6-6s was 5.99. There were two new starter sets which INCLUDED motors.

Apogee charges near retail $13.12 for C's. So $6.99 is a 46% discount to the end user on the key product Estes wants to sell through. That is not looking good for Estes, or real dealers or smaller online dealers. Just fine for Hobby Lobby and its customers. Some repricing is needed there. In the past most hobby manufacturers offered product at 40/25 or 55% off to DISTRIBUTORS and 40% off to DEALERS to which the distributors also sold. If a retailer is offering distributor wholesale to the public, like Belleville has done in the past, then pricing is wrecked. It might be time for a firm set sale price from the manufacturer and don't even discuss MSRP. |

Sorry Jerry, but that type of pricing for dealers and distributors in the hobby business ended over a decade ago. The big two national hobby distributors (consolidated to one) changed that. Competitive dealers can pass along some of that extra savings to the consumer. Non-competitive dealers can keep it for themselves.

I just stopped at the Hobby Lobby in Muncie on the way back to my room. No new kits yet. Amusing, that.....
I saw the Epic II two-stager (which is similar but not the same as Sterling Silver from last year) last Saturday night as we all circled ‘round the box that John Langford brought and opened up but that model makes no sense for C6-0s and not B6-0s as it’s a minimum diameter 18mm model. Even C6-0 to A8-5 it’s very likely to get lost. Ellis Langford told me yesterday that most of those models from that box will be in the Cannon auction as “first runs of the new kits”. Hmmmmmmmm..... I did also see the two starter sets which are true starter sets, not launch sets. That’s the first ones since the Rocket Science Starter Set which is in most Target stores which itself was the first starter set in a long time.

Manufacturer or Distributor mandatory minimum retail sale prices are illegal price fixing in Michigan.
Titleist continues to get away with it here on golf balls and I don't understand how other than possibly it has never been challenged in court.

I was at my local HL yesterday. No new stock, but new product pricing was in place. But I wonder if all the kinks are worked out. My store’s C6-5 packs were priced at $7.99, which is about 32% discount from MSRP. That looks close to discounts I saw on a few kits the last time I checked. The A and B motors were both $5.99, which I think is odd, but they are $10.29 and $10.79 MSRP, respectively. The D12 two-packs were $7.99, and E12 three-packs were $15.99 (which is 33% off MSRP).

FYI, the Phantom, Boosted Bertha, Sasha, Black Brant II, Double Ringer and Gryphon boost glider are all showing in-stock at AC Supply.
BBII has been on my list since the 2019 catalog came out - I’ve been thinking of buying the decals from Stickershock and modding one of my Mammoths into a “profile scale” BBII and figure building one in 1/13 couldn’t hurt. |
