Default 3-31-12 Launch Pictures - Winnsboro, Louisiana

Started out to be a hazy Saturday with low cloud cover with the promise of clearing skies in the late afternoon. Due to crops planted on the field we can only use the Winnsboro site during winter months and are usually done by this time of year.

Conditions were not real good for photography but I did manage to get a flights and a few images while I was there.

I flew the AAA Model Aviation Fuels Magnum Nike-Ram 2 clone, SLS AeroDart that I built and dressed out in 1969 catalog finish, SSRS Crown Lasor-134 clone, and my LOC Precision Nuke ProMaxx. All turned in great flights except a late ejection on the ProMaxx flight resulted in a pretty nice smack on the lower airframe that is mostly cosmetic and should be easy to repair.

Links to threads for some of the builds are posted here and a few images I shot below. Flew mostly E and F motors this time out ..... No HPR. My knee just can't handle the long walks should electronics fail to do their job but with the conditions at the field mid power on Saturday was the norm.

I must say the SLS AeroDart with an AeroTech E20 is a really nice combination. The Lasor-134 clone with G motors hits near a mile so recovery with a streamer is a must. I built that rocket in 2005 and it's still a favorite high flyer. It's not a park flyer ..... you need a field like this to recover it.

How close to those power lines did you actually come with the AeroDart?
And thanks for posting actual rocketry content. It's nice to come here occasionally and actually being able to read about rocketry. I like to find something other than the current events class being conducted in the Free For All section.

Bill, thanks for *your* Current Rocketry Events!

Although I'm especially sad and sorry about the USS America.

Yeah, I really wanted to have good things to say about that series of flights.

Is this from the same lineup as the Lil Nuke? If so, how do they compare size-wise? It looks to be smaller, but there's not a lot in that pic that gives a sense of perspective.

Thanks Bill,

I appreciate the compliment.

I have to bring at least one rocket with an EnerJet logo on it to every launch!

Well, I really didn't notice that in the image until I got back home and transferred the pictures from the camera. It landed in the paved roadway so I don't think very far from it. I was zoomed pretty hard on that image because I shot it from near the pads where I was standing but I'm thinking now it looks like a pretty close call.

Those are the only power lines nearby so I'm surprised no one has landed something on them yet.
