Would anyone like some cheap balsa wood?
I wasn't sure where to put this so I thought I would try here.
Scott, if you want to move this somewhere more appropriate, please, go ahead. In this time of sheltering down, we have had a LOT of free time on our hands. Myself and a few other members here have had even more since we are already retired. While wandering around my shop looking for more projects while I waited for glue to dry (I do that an awful lot ), I was looking at my boxes of scrap balsa and thought, what could I do with all of that balsa???" It is roughly three or four lifetimes worth. Then it came to me. Would anybody want some of it? I have some (I can get more) 1 gallon zip lock bags. How about $1.00 a bag? At a future NSL or NARAM for pick-up only. I could ship it but would make no sense for a $1.00 bag of balsa and $8.00 shipping. What do you guys think? Or should I just throw it in my wood stove.

Gord,
If you don’t get any takers, it does make nice kindling. I used up a lot of scrap last year to get a fire going. About 20 years ago a friend of mine unloaded a bunch of big RC airplane fuselages and wings on me. He bought them at an RC swap meet for a few dollars each, thinking he'd cover them and finish them for flight. Never happened. I burned them in our firepit. Wow, BONFIRE! Maybe all that dried up Ambroid glue helped.

Scratch builders of LPR sized models should jump at the bags, especially since balsa has been getting more and more expensive. Guys that scratch as much as Bill would benefit. It's just a matter of who shows up at a national or regional meet.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Not sure when the next national event is going to be, but count me interested.

Well, these are cutoffs and wedges I remove on the band saw when I turn a nose cone I get two good sized 3” by whatever wedges for each cone I turn. Plus two smaller wedges. This is one box, some short 2x4 balsa pieces in there too.

Gordon - what kind of leftovers are we talking about here - blocks, sheets, small odds and ends?

It just took me forever to post that. At 72 technology newer than 15 years ago befuddles me. OK, who the heck says befuddled????

There is no reason to use a ziploc. Choose a USPS box size that is fairly optimal and just charge postage.

There aren't that many folks like us that turn our own cones so I don't know how popular it would be. I could find uses for bulkheads, ullage motors, and other fiddly bits, along with turning smaller cones. I haven't glued blocks of balsa and turned them. Does it cause as much grief as turning glued chunks of foam? Just asking for others because I won't be making any national meets until I retire.
