Thanks for the screen grabs and the suggestion to use the you tube slo mo, I wasn’t aware of that!

by 1974 they had de-tuned the B14 down to close to what eventually became the B8, but no one thought to change the printed specs. So you'd probably get a thrust duration of about .7 seconds.

I crudely counted frames and got at least 20 from ignition to burnout so it is approaching a .7 sec burn, and at the time seemed longer than other B14s I have flown. Still nice though!

Compared to today's motors, it looks like it still has a pretty good kick.

I flew a 1982 C6-5 motor this weekend. Worked perfectly, and everyone noted how well it looked in flight compared to other C6-5's that day

I fully concur with Roy here.
Whenever I fly vintage motors, they have markedly better "off the pad" kick/performance.
Gives creedance to the concept that "yesterday's" BP was higher energy than today's.
I also wonder if "aging" the BP has any role ?

The delay grain produces MARKEDLY more tracking smoke in the old motors as well.

I have some real 1972 B14s with real drilled cores.
While the pressed-core B14/B8 kicks well off the pad, the older drilled core B14s accelerate "Warp-like" compared to the pressed cores.

Almost Mortar-Like. No funny "Bloop" sound at ignition though.
I used to like to fly an old beat-up Astron Avenger on a A8-0 to B14-7.
Took off fairly slow, staged low, then warp-speed bolted to apogee.

Estes has always said that the quality of BP they are getting has been declining since DuPont quit making black powder in the 70's. Back when Ed LaCroix ordered some A3-6T motors for Apogee in 1991, Ed Brown first doubted they could be made, and the ones LaCroix got were "filled to --or past-- the brim." The clay cap was just clinging by compression adhesion to the ejection charge. it couldn't attach to the casing! The culprit is the charcoal used in black powder, what wood it is made from, and how it's made. My understanding is that willow wood is the best; Goex uses maple.

When DuPont discontinues making a product/chemical and sells it off to someone else, things go to H**L IN A HANDBASKET quickly. When they sold off their Automotive Finish business to XYZ Co. It happened also.

DuPont should STILL be in the BLASTIN' , BP, and smokeless propellant business.

A heads up, the Camera departed the nosecone and was lost. The flight had what looked like normal Staging and ejection. It was flying on a modified mongoose, B6-0, B6-6. High but normal flight. The rubber and was still attached. If I get another I’ll use two bands or add tape.
