I had all of those Citation kits back in the day, and I'm reasonably sure I also got them at the Estes company store in Penrose.
It would have been before 1977 - I pretty much stopped rocketry when I left for college in Sept. 1973 so it would have been before that - '72 or '73. That's when the Citation kits all came with a couple engines.

We got them at Rider's Hobby in Flint, Mi and they were boxed.
I still have the box for the Patriot.
Toys-R-Us had the bagged ones at the same time frame.

Hmmm...ok, interesting. I wonder if that is stock they had had on hand for several years or if Estes was still actively shipping out the Citation boxed kits to distributors and hobby shops through the latter 70s as well? Not sure. But your seems to be a possible case in point, unless of course, as mentioned, those were some leftover stock from early in the decade.

Not sure how old the boxed stock was. It was the only place I saw the boxxed Citation kits. All the other hobby/toy stores during that time only had bagged ones.

I bought my Quasar and Red Max boxed Citation kits in my local hobby shop around 1972 or 1973.

I lived (And now live again) in the same dead-end town. Yet, it had the best or one of the best hobby shops in San Diego County at that time.

Estes, Centuri and Cox products. Full lines (But no Enerjet).
I used to stare at all the kits on the peg hooks and shelves.

Those were the days.

The Citation series had their own launch pad.

It was called the Star Port launch pad and was nothing more than a chrome-plated Porta-Pad.

I bought one from Estes on close-out.

The plastic was different from that of the regular Porta-Pads and the tabs broke off the legs easily.
I threw it out when I left home.

I still have the instructions for it.

The hobby shop that I got the Citation boxed kits from in 1977 had boxed Enerjet motors on the shelf thru at least 1983. They had a TON of them. At the time they were way outside my motor budget that Dad financed...he just could not see paying for ONE motor that cost as much as three paks of Estes Cs. Seeing as he kept me in a constant supply of kits/motors, I did not complain.

The town couldn't be too bad. A. It had a great hobby shop with Citation kits. B. You went back to it.

I saw a boxed Quasar go for $301 on eBay a few years ago. Yeah, that would require quite a few lawns mowed.

My first and forever my favorite, I wish Estes would consider re-issuing it. The recent Alpha VI came with red metallic plastic parts; it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to make them silver instead. I'd be happy to clip the fins myself.

I have made a couple repros myself with Alpha III's and spray paint but since Gordo's ALPS printers died I've had to make my own approximation of decal wraps with chrome Monokote and MacTac with mediocre results.
