Flew mine today on a QJet C12-4 - not a great flight, arced over after maybe 200-300 foot climb, ejected fine, then drifted into the nearby soy bean field never to be seen again. Not sure I’m going replace it, looked ok with the minor painting I did but it didn’t really click with me like I thought it would when I saw pix of it. If I do pick up another one I’ll probably stretch it 4-6” and do a complete repaint like one I saw on FB. And here on YORF! Looks good Lee

Sorry you lost your MAV on its maiden flight Scott. At least you didn't have a ton of time invested in the build.

Just a small update to this old thread.

It took much longer than I wanted before I could get this one up in the air but the planets finally aligned and I got two good solid days of no wind and nothing to do. I was able to spend two full days at Bong in WI. getting in some much needed flight time.

I'm happy to say that the MAV flew successfully twice. First flight was on a C6-3. Minor weather cocking but still flew 350-400ft. Landed safely about 100ft from the pad in the grass. The stock 18" parachute is perfect without a spill hole.

Second flight was on a C5-3. I was hopeful for more altitude as everyone is saying how much better the C5-3 is but I didn't see it. Flight was exactly the same. Good launch, minor weather cocking, 350-400 ft apogee and a safe landing a short walk from the pad.

I'm happy to say nothing broke. I feel like I can finally do some detailing on the lower fins now that I know they won't break off every time it flies.

Ouch! Do report that motor failure on motorcato.org. I've flown a bunch of Q-Jets since they came out and had this happen once (though it was in an Airwalker).

Was this a motor malfunction or did the lower section simply melt from heat.

I've had some of Estes plastic fins deform from using too large of a motor in them but I've not see anything that bad.

BLASSSTTTTT-OHHHH !

It definitely looks better with a gray fin can than a white one.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

It was a CATO, the casing itself ruptured. AT indicated that it was probably an O-Ring seal failure, and will be sending a replacement pack. For what it's worth, that's the first failure I've had in around at least 50 motors (I'm on my 2nd set of C12/D16 bulk packs)
