Thanks Steve, That was a great review. I wasn't really looking for a kit that size.
I don't do HPR. I was just curious and have never seen that kit.
Also, I was looking at my Quest X-15 and wondered "How can I make it better?"

Default X15-3

I had one of these kits and just sold it around Nov 2013 I believe on ebay. Ran into hard times and let it go but I do have some info to share and some pics.

This flying model is a one of a kind X15-3 flying true scale model. It is new and complete with all parts and instructions. It is very, very rare! Only offered in the USA by the old Lawndart rocket company before they closed shop for around 3 months. I know of no where in the world that you can get this kit today and I know of no one else who has ever offered a X15-3 kit in the pass. This kit was put together by Paul Clark a master model builder out of the UK. If you know Paul, then you know it is of the highest detail.

SpaceCraft 1/20th scale X15-3 Delta Kit Flying Model Rocket Kit

The Model
The model is based on detailed study of photographs, copies of the original drawings of the Delta Wing X15-3. Great effort has been taken to accurately replicate the detail of the X15-3 construction such as the panelling sections of the rocket plane.
I have made the model as light as possible and it has been satisfactorily flown on F20-4W and G motors if you wish. Because of the various sizes of motors can vary the kit will not necessarily contain the motor mount size you require and I have assumed that you will be competent enough to make the size you require. Although it is designed to be flown the model can alternatively be built as a static model for display only.

Dimensions of built rocket Plane:
The built model is 86.36cm (34") Long. The fuselage diameter is 6.604 cm ( 2.6”)

NOTE: This model is being made in small quantities and so the components will need more hand preparation than a mass produced kit. It is quite demanding to build and should only be tackled by experienced modelers. Similarly, it is not advised that you attempt to fly it unless you have previous experience and are familiar with model rocketry safety codes.

We were each used to a lot of finishing work but the inadequacy of the parts we'd already constructed suggested a slim chance of a finished model worth the additional effort required, so we each gave up and moved on to other projects.

Wow! Thanks for the honest review.
I had never heard of these kits before.
Steve, if you couldn't put this one together I doubt anyone else could either!

Funny, I just did a blog post about models I had gotten frustrated with and set aside.

Very few, if any of the kits were ever actually built. Feedback I got from customers - hated the laminated paper parts.

Nonetheless, Dale, thanks a bunch for making them available here in the states. Paul Clark is a very accomplished builder and the vacuform skins he produced for his V2 were astounding. The fact that his personal work didn't translate well into kits was unfortunate, but I'm really glad he gave it a shot. And I'm really thankful you made them available to us.

Wink

Just to whet folks appetite, got my cnc machine up and running. Laser cutter is on a slow boat from China (literally). Hmmm, looks like X-15 parts being drawn up on my old PC. And thanks to Sport Rocketry for publishing the article on pressure casting for resins. Hint, hint.

I announced two years ago that LawnDart Rocketry would return. Ah, life...

Lastly, one of Paul's goals was to produce large model rockets. All of his kits where designed to fly on F motors, so lots of lightweight building materials.
