Yeah....that's what I was thinking - Aerotech/valuerockets D10. My stock Super Alpha certainly likes 'em (but mind the fiery ejection charge).

Probably would fly well on those engines... but I don't have any of those, nor right now do I have budget for them. And I have dozens of C6-5s and B6-4s.

Looks like the love child of an Alpha, and one of my favorites as a kid, the Astron Drifter.
Nice clean lines, a great idea for a mod. I, too, have a boatload of 18mm motors. They have been stored in my cool, dry basement for years -- some of them from the early 90s. I'm hoping they are good to go after all these years.

They should be. I have been noticing that the motors I have that are from the early '90s (some from the Boy Scouts closeout sales a few years back) tend to seem to have short delays but otherwise are just fine.

Most of mine are from the early 2000's.
The boat tail was easy, actually... it was making the little triangle fillers for the fins that gave me trouble. The math seems easy, but they weren't quite right when I made them and I had to do a bunch of sanding to get them to fit.

Hi Chris,
The tail cone works great on the Super Alpha. Your work is always clean!

One other thing I wondered about, did you cut the tube shorter, or does the tail cone add to the overall length? Doug .

It adds to the length. I thought the rocket was a bit short to suit my tastes, so I left it alone. All I did was build the stock 24mm engine mount without the hook or thrust ring, and with the centering rings moved so that an inch of the BT50 would stick out of the BT60 sustainer. I added a tailcone made using the generator on my website, and then inserted an 18mm mount made from Semroc parts into the BT50. The shock cord is anchored to the original engine mount using Kevlar, as usual. I didn't try to make it replaceable; I may regret that.

Well, all those years ago I lied. I never actually installed the Kevlar leader; thus, when I got to the launch site last fall at Fairfax IA, the rocket was not actually ready to fly.
Gah. So I've installed a Kevlar leader using a coupler slid down into the body, with regular elastic attached as usual. I'm hoping to go back to Fairfax next week for their Spring Fling launch and I'll take it with me.
