I haven't read up on all the details of the USSF. I didn't know they planned on changing names of the bases. Cape Canaveral Space Force Station doesn't sound too bad now that I roll it around a little. Thanks for the info.
You're welcome. I like the new base names, too--they are "timelessly 1950s" (reminiscent of the forward-looking era when we didn't limit ourselves; if we needed atomic rockets to send expeditions to the planets, then by Pegasus' mane, we'd just do it!). I wouldn't know what I do about the U.S. Space Force if I didn't know Roy Houchin (USAF, retired, Colonel and Dr. [in spaceflight history]), who is now with the U.S. Space Force's History Office. The USSF isn't a new idea (it dates back to 1958), and it has been discussed and proposed from time to time since then, but:

Today, space operations have reached such a level of military importance that it now makes sense to have a dedicated Space Force (just as the U.S. Air Force--due to the increased importance of military aviation in World War II--made sense by the late 1940s). This doesn't mean that the Air Force, Navy, and Army won't still have space capabilities of their own; they will just specialize in branch-specific ones, just as the Army specialized in helicopter and specialty fixed-wing aircraft operations after the U.S. Army Air Corps became the U.S. Air Force. Also:

I hadn't known about the deep heritage of Willy Ley's book, either, until I bought the last (1969) edition from an AbeBooks.com bookseller not long ago (I already had a mid-1950s edition, and I didn't think he had revised it beyond that). Willy Ley died on June 24, 1969, so he got to see Apollo 8, Apollo 9, and Apollo 10 (the May 18 - 26 lunar orbit/close approach dress rehearsal for Apollo 11: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_10 ). Arthur C. Clarke wrote that he and Willy's other friends all felt an emotion close to anger, *for* Willy, because the Moon landing was something he had looked forward to for most of his life. As well:

Willy Ley appeared on Walt Disney's television program https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willy_Ley , and here (see: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=willy+ley ) are several television appearances by Dr. Ley. He was also the scientific advisor for the Golden Record, "A Child's Introduction to Outer Space" (it can be heard *here* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1i0nnR1bSo and ^here^ [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eliDhERy3E & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwmGiPvEWbA&t=39s ]). I listened to my 33-1/3 LP record of it when I was growing up, and it remains a great way to brainwash...er, introduce rocketry and space flight to kids... :-)

Space forces don't do well with combustion engines, tire changes, and left turns. I think they will fare better with reaction motors, LOX, and orbital trajectories.

Monogram used to kit a parody airplane called the "Flap Jack" in their "Lights Action Sound" line.
It included U.S. Air FARCE decals.

Hey GH, wasn't your Dad in the Air "Farce?" Doesn't this make you a big joke?

Yes, my Dad was USAF, and be decidedly did NOT like those decals.
Actually neither did I.

I didn't even know they had a race car; that whole concept seems...odd (it would be like NASA, JAXA, ESA, ISRO, or Roscosmos having a race car).

The US Army has sponsored drag racing for decades, so it isn't a stretch. I believe it has sponsored cars in NASCAR too, but I don't watch it and I'm not sure. I like races with two wheels and both left and right turns.

Don Prudhome was my favorite top fuel/funny car guy back in the early 70's. When I got into it he was running a Vega funny car, which was the world's first 5 second 240 mph car. Now they regularly run 3 second 300+ mph times! At any rate, he was sponsored by Army after his Hot Wheels sponsorship with Tom McEwen. I built a couple 1/16 models of this beast.
