Not sure it went a full minute out of a planned eight. That's why they call it 'testing'.

Ok, they just did a replay and it looks like maybe about 1:10 duration or thereabouts before the shutdown.

They call it the world's most powerful rocket. I understand, but I can't get it out of my head that it's just a mediocre (yet efficient) rocket with two very powerful solid rockets strapped to it. The core's four RS-25's produce comparable thrust to a single F-1, or a Saturn 1B first stage.

Let's hope they find the bug and get a successful test very soon. New administrations usually mean all kinds of cancellations to free money for pet projects. I'd like to at least see the hardware fly once.

67 seconds. Sounds like some hydraulics lost some pressure and went out of spec, but the briefing will be in an hour & a half.

Exactly.

I have not been an open fan of Artemis, but if they ARE going to do it, I want it to succeed at something. And I’d like to see it return astronauts to the moon, if it gets that far. But, like you say, it will be interesting to see if the Biden folks will continue it or can it. It is essentially a ‘works’ progam stretching across many congressional districts, so keeping support for it probably would not be hard. But, if they want something more in their liking but also to provide pet jobs, then it could easily be a sacrificial lamb. I’m sure they really wanted to have a good test today for that reason.

4xRS-25 about equal to 1xFalcon 9 block 5 in thrust, but they're supposed to fire for ~9 mins compared to F9's 2.5 minutes.

Yes, total impulse numbers are much more favorable in a comparison than max thrust!

I head them talk about the number four engine hence the early shutdown.

He queried if they had four good engines after data came in on the #4 engine, and they said yes. I'm guessing that meant it had good thrust, but something else was out of spec. Hydraulics may very well have been the issue, as they were about to start gimballing.

Here is a question?

Do they recycle the water that cools the flame and keeps the sound down?
