Star wars
How many models did Estes make for the Star Wars line? I’m trying to get as many as I can

https://estesrockets.com/catalogs/ https://www.rocketshoppe.com/kit_lists.htm Between these three sources you should be able to generate a list - there were some minor redressed versions of different X-Wing RTFs so that may need some closer attention to figure out. Good luck and good hunting. |

The 1978 catalog had the first issue of Star Wars rockets.
The following existed: Proton Torpedo (only available in Starter Kit) Standard X-Wing Maxi-Brute X-Wing Standard TIE Fighter (not Darth Vader's special design) R2-D2 In later releases there were some cheap RTF heavy disasters released such as the Death Star, Y-Wing, small R2D2, etc that have virtually zero value both from collectability as well as flight.

Over the years I've picked up the original X-Wing and R2D2 from 1978, the Death Star, plastic X-Wing R2D2, Star Destroyer, Darth Vader Tie Fighter, Naboo Starfighter and Y-Wing from the late 1990's. The original X-Wing was a decent flyer, nothing spectacular. The Death Star is very entertaining and a similarly decent flyer. The plastic X-Wing is squirrelly as hell. Pass on that one, as well as the mid-size R2D2. (Or R2DooDoo as our LCO accidentally called it before the joke of a flight into the cornfield.) The Star Destroyer is a pretty cool build and a decent flyer, as was the Y-Wing at first. (Pics included.) The Darth Vader Tie Fighter and Naboo Starfighter were cheap pickups and I still felt ripped off. Both flew like crap.
The Y-Wing was heavy, but not at all bad. First flight was pretty cool, but the most recent flight last month there was a separation at ejection. All the parts started fluttering back, but the body got itself righted just about the 200' mark and came in ballistic. It core sampled and ripped both of the engine pods off. I think it can be fixed, but not flown again.

The original 3.8" R2D2 is a decent flier if flown with enough power. The new Quest Composite C and D engines or Estes C5-3 is good in it. Needs a kick.

There was also an Estes/NCR X-wing with rear ejection, if I remember correctly.

Ah, the Red Squadron X-Wing. This one was potentially lethal. I think it had a metal spike in the nose and a reputation for lawn darting.

The X-Wing with a metal nose spike was the mini-motor powered one. The NCRBE X-Wing needed an 'F' or 'G' motor to get it going. Recovery system ejection was the biggest issue with that model.

Yeah, I don't know what made me read that as the mini turd. I think two paths of thought crossed and inexplicably became one. Sorry.
