Auto parts stores are a good source for Rusto High Build or Sandable filler/primer.

I've been using bondo glazing putty thinned with denatured alcohol on my 3D printed parts.

Not quite as easy as spraying primer - but it works pretty well.

LOL. My local Walmart is about 1/4mile from Home Depot.

The Ace Hardware primer comes in a large can with a nice fan spray nozzle and seems to have a lot of filler properties.

I really have no complaints with it. So, I’m good

Coincidentally, I ran out of primer so I went to my local Ace Hardware and the place with “helpfull folks” told me they can get the Bondo high build primer. I should have it next Thursday.

So Ace Hardware has it!

I shot the test fin with (3) coats of the filler primer yesterday. Today I first sanded it with 120 grit and then 320 grit. It FEELS relatively smooth. I'll now shoot it with white regular primer and see what kind of flaws it really has.

BTW, Scott 650 is right: this filler primer is harder to sand than regular primer and it loads up the sandpaper quickly.

When I have to drive for work to Warren (which I don't often anymore, I work from home 9 out of 10 days) it's a 125 mile round trip. I don't mind driving 25 miles just for a good dinner let alone good primer.

Bondo Putty thins much better with Acetone, MEK, or Toluene, in order of fast to slower in drying time.
Alcohol would take much longer to dry, if that is what you want.
Using one of the solvents I listed would allow the putty to "bite" into the plastic which alcohol would not.

That makes sense - I just happened to have the EtOH on hand (and only the EtOH). And it works, even if suboptimally.

I've tried THF on printed PLA. It's the only thing reputed to soften it. (Other than methylene chloride, I suppose). Reputed is the word - it didn't phase my print at all.

Before I retired I worked at schools all over Michigan and Ohio .
I averaged 60,000 miles a year. I got real tired of replacing cars every 2 or 3 years.

I hate driving now!

OOF !
I thought my 25K miles/yr was bad.
60K/yr would REALLY SUCK unless in a Company owned vehicle.
I used to get $625/mo vehicle allowance fringe benefit. That got cut off back around 2010.
My level is now high enough to get a company car, but I choose not to participate in that plan as it requires one to purchase a new vehicle every three years. No freakin' way am I doing that.
I never buy vehicles New. I let some other person eat that first three years depreciation.
You get MUCH more vehicle "pre-owned" and still with a Corporate Certified warranty.
I'd much rather buy a 5yr old Corvette or Caddy in like-new condition for less than half the cost of new.
