So is the NC for the Cherokee-Pro an accurate upscale of the secant-ogive? The image on the eRockets website looks just like a long ogive.
I'll pass - Sandman made me a 2.6" secant-ogive for my upscale years ago. Sadly, he can't get large enough basswood these days to make a 3" or 4" version.

If Semroc would do the Mars Snooper II in a Super version, I'd be interested.
The actual ESTES Super Mars Snooper is due in October. Based on what we have seen lately it should be far less costly due to nobody pays retail for Estes stuff, and AC Supply sells Estes at 40% off. Not sure I see viability of a Semroc Super version unless it is GIANT capable of at least H Power.

It would. I have a big upscale of the Trident. It started in the 90s. I still need to turn three nose cones. That model has 9! A Super Mars Snooper would be an equally challenging scratch-build, maybe tougher. The main tube is 2.3” in diameter, the height will come in at over 6 feet tall. All nose cones are faithful true scale-ups of the original Estes versions. I REALLY need to get those nose cones turned and finish it! Here is a picture of the parts. The duct tubes need to be extended to around 45” as I recall. Those are 34” long 29mm tubes. I have the two upper nose cones swapped in picture. The longer “Y” nose cone should be at the bottom. The “K” nose cone should be at the top.

What scale is your Trident? The Estes Trident is about 2.6'. At 6' that would be about a 2.3X. (but you said over 6'). I built Jerry's 2.1X Trident upscale Thanks - Les |

I can do up to 3” nose cones with a single piece of wood. Anything bigger takes a glue up. Yes, I still do balsa.

Yes, it’s more than possible but…the wood is expensive. The best I can get in balsa is a 2” x 4” x 12” long at $14.00 each so up to 12”. On longer cones I can start with a 3”x3” for the center and glue up four pieces for the base of the cone and the shoulder. The seems aren’t too bad to fill. I hope that makes sense. So, yes, I can do it but it’s expensive. Basswood is available in larger sizes but it’s current rate for kiln dried basswood is an unbelievable $14.80 per board feet. While basswood grows locally it is priced like a tropical hardwood.

My main tubing is old mis-sized tubing I bought in the early 90s from Matt Steele at NCR. It is about 2.34” OD. I bought maybe 10 tubes (30” long?) for $1 each. But, no nose cones, couplers, centering rings were available, of course, so I have to make my own. The upscale size is 2.4 (2.34” tube divided by .976” original BT50 tube.) so the height is going to be 2.4 X the original model total length (31.6”), making it 75.8”. I remember discussions about Jerry’s upscale Trident. Not faulting Jerry, but I’d call it a “sport upscale”. I am taking great pains (and too much time!) making mine a true upscale, with faithful upscaling on the original’s nose cones. A good example is the upper nose cone on the lower main tube. That was a BNC-50J, an unusual slightly flat-topped nose cone. I turned exact replicas of that 50J profile. Crazy, I know, but it’s just my OCD raising it’s ugly head.

Agreed - Jerry's was sport scale. I did some changes to get closer but not perfect

I was looking at the specs and I assume that it is standard BT80 / T80 2.60x2.558 airframe tubing and not BT80H / T80H 2.64x2.558 heavy wall tubing. A “Pro” series Semroc kit at this price level should have the heavy wall tubing like the old SLS series kits … same as the SLS Brighton. I hope this 2.60” diameter is a misprint. Not knocking the Pro Cherokee but for the suggested motors I would prefer the heavy walled tubing for durability. If anyone that has purchased this kit can confirm that it’s BT80H and not standard BT80 I will certainly buy one from Semroc to build and fly … 🚀
