I've got a Centuri A.L.C.M. I'll sell for a "more eBay silliness" price of $999.99.
I have an Eagle Transporter that I will also sell for $1999.

I hope to live long enough to see one fly someday, but I don't hold out much hope. I did see the Klingon and Enterprise, so I got that going for me.

When the bottom falls out of the collector market, I may open the bag and build it.
If we are still alive, I'll give you a call and we will fly it.

I saw a Space: 1999 Starship fly somewhere around 1979 or 1980. Was not impressed. Went about 200' on a C5-3. "Arced over" like an Estes 1284 Space Shuttle on a C6-3.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, TURMOIL, FIASCOS, and HAVOC !

I've built and flown a Thunder Roc, Magnum Hornet, Spacemaster, Lil' Ivan, Magnum Sprint, Tiger Streak, Python Fighter, Sabre, Zebra II Payloader and Viking. The Bull Dog and Firebird should be finished this weekend. I think I'm going to try the Magnum Sam 3 next.

I am guessing Centuri/Estes did not produce many of these kits since they are hard to come by. The older Centuri kits are easier to find than the newer kits.

Default A closer look at the Centuri Firebird fins

Hello Everyone,

I assume the thread Wallyum mentioned in the OP is the one titled "seeking: Centuri Firebird plans: fins, decals, etc" on TRF.

I read that whole thread when I first began to research Centuri rockets last summer. Of note, CaveDucks post (#31) provided information that provides significant critical information. From that post, we know the following:

The body tube matches BT-50L, 12.7" long.
The nose cone matches PNC-50Y, 4.375" long.

The Fins:

Caveduck provided a picture of the fin sheet in a link on that post. A notable feature of the fin sheet is that the grain runs parallel to the trailing edge. This reminded me of the Estes Laser (1938) and Zipper/BlueStar (1991). Zipper/BlueStar use the same fins as Laser; they are just flipped around to sweep forward. This clue gave me the idea that Firebird's fins came from another, earlier rocket.

I also theorized, like several others here, that the Estes Dasher (1992) is basically a re-release/clone of the Centuri Firebird. This was largely confirmed when I received an ebay purchased Dasher recently. The fins on Dasher are a match for Firebird. The major changes are the obvious livery, and the nose cone. By Dasher's release in 1988, the PNC-50Y had been replaced by the two piece PNC-50YR.

This brings us back to the reversed fins. I searched through the archived Estes catalogs on the Estes website from 1983 and before, and pretty quickly came up with a candidate: Estes Meteor (1370) from 1981.

I've attached a picture showing the fins from my Estes Dasher alongside clone Meteor 1370 fins sourced from eRockets. As can be seen, the fin sheet from Dasher matches his photo of the fin sheet for the Centuri Firebird. One of the Dasher fins is set on top of the Meteor fin sheet, and is a near-exact match.

In conclusion, I assess fin sheet BF-1370 was used in the following rockets:
Estes Meteor (1370) in 1981
Centuri Firebird (5359) in 1983
Estes Dasher (1992) in 1988
