Anyway,,, the SEMROC version is Not the same size as the Original. I just measured everything. On the Centuri one, The balsa block is 1/8” shorter , the BNC is much less Tapered, tho same length. The Fin Root is about 1/8” longer too. Mostly, the main Body Tube is a Full One Inch Longer ( on the Centuri one).

While they are close, and indeed the Semroc one is a fine example, the instructions say the Original Centuri Bat Rok was slightly Smaller than the Semroc. This is incorrect, and the opposite. It is slightly Larger….. in most every respect.
If anyone needs comparison pics, I can send them.
Hope this helps someone.
Wow, BT one inch longer, that's a big difference! Good to know. I wonder where Carl got his measurements from? Could there have been variations from kit to kit?

No. There was NO kit to kit. It Was made only one year. So, I doubt there were variations. I’m sure all those were made the same, (or alike). Since he obviously didn’t have one ( I personally knew Karl), or reference to a kit, he didn’t have one to go by.
It’s unlikely he saw one himself. It is a good question, tho.
That’s why also I asked if anyone else out there has one ??

This sounds like a very rare find.

Paul,

I had to ask Carl to supply a 10" ST-7 for my Tau Zero design, since there wasn't any easy way to make it stable at only 9". And even then, that HUGE screw eye nose weight... (shuddering)

A prime example of, "For want of a nail... the kingdom was lost."

And also, "Your mileage(?) may vary."

Yes. Again one of my rarest. Took 55 years to see one. Probably the rarest of my massive collection from before and now. This is a first, I’ve never heard of anyone else having or seeing one. Again, I’m still asking !

Out of All my other Rarest kits I’ve ever had, I’ve seen others like them. Or had them more than once. This one, NOT……

Jesting of course! (Tongue-sticking-out emoticon on my comment).

I have never built a Centuri kit. And with the rarity and prices, I doubt I ever will. I have built a number of Semroc kits but it would be fun to build an original.

I'm not saying it happened on this kit, but Centuri was known to substitute parts occasionally.

You’re exactly right ! In the 70s, they tossed in whatever part, particularly BNCs, into theiir kits. I have 5 Centuri Microns, and All 5 have a different nose cone ! Plus other kits. It made a lot of their kits look " funny" with the substitute cones. But they were cost effective in their lower volume kit making. As you know, Estes made their parts starting in the late 70s, for the most part. I recently bought the 1983 Zebra II Payloader. It’s Estes all the way, except the decal and chute…..
Estes made Centuri’s engines from the beginning. I have a letter here from Vern telling me they sold engines to Centuri at $30 dollars per Thousand ! Ha, 3 ¢ each….
Perhaps the funniest looking kit with the replacement cone was the Snipe Hunter. That longer plastic cone didn’t do it justice……

$30 per thousand. Sounds REALISTIC.
Exactly why I liked Carl's method of selling directly to hobbyists when he owned Semroc.
Kits were reasonably priced direct to us with no GARBAGE middleman markups.
