Ah--maybe those postings will shake loose material on the proposed five-stage Project Farside vehicle, which could have reached the Moon (or solar orbit). It wasn't proceeded with because its payload (either 1 or 3 pounds; I forget which) could only have been one experiment, *or* a tracking beacon; today, that size payload could include a full suite of instruments.

Default Balloon Gyroc?

There was an r/c helicopter toy that looked very similar.
Had a styrofoam body, same style legs, etc.....
