You can get a longer blade by extending out one of the cheap break-off blade knives.
Here's a blog post showing a smaller nose cone.
https://modelrocketbuilding.blogspo...ur-build_5.html

The same technique works for larger nose cones,
Start with the blade short and make a shallow cut around the nose cone in a straight line,
Extend your knife blade to cut closer to the center,
Continue until the nose cone splits.

Keep your hands clear of the long blade - It can slip.
Don't use too much pressure - that blade might break off.

No - it looks pretty nasty, but this is after it’s was cleaned and stitched
At the ER. I was trying to carve a balsa block and the blade slipped.
‘15-16 years ago I think.

Great idea! I now have those break-off blade knives in two sizes. Love them!

I may just go cut a cone in half to try it.

When I built my Whee II clone I used the current pnc -60ms nose comes and simply lengthened the tube to make up the difference in the length of the cones. As I recall the fin pattern worked surprisingly well.

That’s brilliant! Is the PNC-60MS the Big Bertha cone?

The really long X-Acto knife blade for #6, #5, and #2 handles is the #26 blade.
The #2 and #33 blades would also work well for splitting cones.

I believe the #26 blade is still easily found on ebay. I have at least a dozen of them.
They can be really dangerous to work with. I prefer both the #33 and #2 over the #26.
The #26 is best used for rough shaping balsa blocks and whittling.

Thanks guys! I went with the long break off blade idea. It worked well. I used two BNC-60L nose cones.
