Yup, my question. And that’s what I heard as well. I wonder if Ellis’ comment about not selling that size in retail packaging is the explanation for astronwolf’s conversation with someone at Estes that he mentions up in post #3.
Rick Randol alluded to “tube stories” in his presentation and I think Ellis kind of ducked the implied general question about tube size availability because of changes at the supplier(s). We’ve been hearing that things are not going as we are accustomed in that realm for some time, so there may well be something out there that Bob (Initiator001) is more privy to than I am, because of his connections. Speaking of whom….”Enerjet historian” eh? Really?

Not the worst title someone could be granted! Between the new Enerjet Nike Ram, the Newway Nike Ajax and the So Long I guess my kit acquisition moratorium will end later this year.

Yup, Gary Rosenfield announced they’re bringing it back, same basic dimensions as the original, so all you veteran rocketeers have something to use the Enerjet revival motors in. He hinted that some Entertek designs are coming back down the road as well. And another interesting bring back from a source you’d not think of - Newway, the square tube rocket folks, are adding a repro of the Estes Nike Ajax to their Oldway line.

It's not sold in retail packaging like the usual tubes. Miraculously, both tubes and couplers are in stock again, just in time for NARCON.

Yes there was. It was bought out by eRockets then sort of disappeared.

They didn't make tubes. They sold tubes they bought in bulk from Euclid.

The businesses that make stuff out of bulk paper are called converters - there’s a whole bunch of paper converters out there making boxes, tubes, envelopes, packaging etc. Paramount Tube - which includes the non-medical products part of the old Euclid Paper Tube - are part of Precision Products Group, PPG makes all kinds of stuff like packaging, twine, cord, sleeving, insulation, along with paper tubing. Paramount even has a page on their website touting the fact that they make hobby rocket tubing - they even have a generic CG render of a model rocket on that page. Paramount has a factory in Changzhou City China along with plants in Apple Creek Ohio and Fort Wayne Indiana. Do the factories in China that make kits for Estes source tubes locally? Beats me but it would make sense.
PPG makes stuff for the medical industry and the military so I’d say the Late Unpleasantness and ongoing world conflicts probably have/had a big impact on their making things for the consumer market - hopefully things start getting back to whatever the new normal is now and tube availability starts improving.
