Default red estes payload

you know those white 'chutes that are now sold with those estes kits?
well i bought a ricoceht at my local walmart, opened it up, and instead of the bland white, the parachute was bright red!!!
does this mean that the colored parachutes are comeing back, or was this just a fluke? anyway, i'll leave it in the package, just in case...

The reason that Estes was packaging white, printing-free parachutes in its kits this year was because there were delays in getting their printed parachutes tested for compliance with the new product safety law. That process must have finally been completed, because your Ricochet came with a colored parachute. Thanks for sharing that; yours is the first report that I have seen of a colored parachute being included in a new production Estes kit. I have three of the Sustainables, plus the Moon Mutt, but I haven't opened any of them up yet to check the parachutes. I'm running off to do that now.

It could mean that it's full of lead and you have 3 months to live now that you touched it...

The problem is with the printer ink. The red parachutes aren't printed; the plastic itself is red. And they've been out for at least a couple of weeks.

A-ha, so these red chutes aren't printed? That wasn't clear in the earlier post. A couple of weeks is an eyeblink in time.

I really don't know when they came out. I just remember hearing about it a couple of weeks ago. They could have came out even earlier than that.

I do know that my trip to Hobby Lobby this past weekend yielded all three of the most recent 'chutes. The individually packaged one was red, and the kits were a mix of plain white and the yellow/black checkerboard pattern.

I'm carefully saving all of my plain-plastic parachutes, complete with baggy and explanatory note.

They'll be collectors' items some day.
