The only possible credit I can find in the Tech Data and the kit instructions is to a Robert C. Dille. I don't know if he is/was with Centuri or with Universal Studios. His name and the date 1979 is the byline for the introduction of the kit instructions. Jeff

Robert C. Dille is one of the authors of The Collected Works of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century . I don't know if Centuri hired him to write some background info, or if he was retained by Universal as a B.R. expert.

John Flint Dille took a couple of Amazing Stories articles and reinvented the characters to make the Buck Rogers comic strip in 1929. Maybe Robert C. is his son. ???

OK, back to the BRS for a while.

I filletted the front removeable landing skid assy. and checked the alignment and fit in the launch lug, then mounted the lower fins, upper fins, and the four detail fins into the body tubes. Before inserting the angled parts into the body tubes, I first bevel-sanded the root edges for a better fit and for a better radial pattern when the assemblies are viewed from the rear. I'm glad I didn't attach the nose cones when the instructions said to! They would only be in the way. More to come.

Jeff,

Looking good. You did a much better job of keeping everything square than I did. I found the pieces that go in the angles weren't all exactly the same dimensions so some fit tight and others were a little loose. It all worked out OK but it reminded me of the difference between diecut parts, where each die was individually made, and laser cut where it's simply a matter of cutting and pasting the CAD file.

Isn't that thick cardstock interesting stuff to work with? There weren't many kits that used it and it seems like a pretty useful building block for model rocketry.

Jeff,

Very interesting. Your pictures reveal a couple of other changes they made on the Blackhawk.

The crosspiece at the aft end of the canopy on the Starfighter got extended all the way to the front on the Blackhawk (see pic from instructions below). It is similar to the piece on the bottom of the Starfighter, but on the Blackhawk it didn't fit very well and required a lot of filler.

I also noticed the main horizontal wing shape is different, although all the other wing and tail pieces are the same. I wonder what was up with that?

Thanks again for posting the pics.

I know what was up with it.

And you told me, "No rush I haven't even started it yet."

Your decals went out yesterday!
