Default Half Round?

Hey Sandman,

Is the half round on the nose cone really .040? it looks tiny. I picked up some .040 and .080, the .080 looks more like the size in your pick..

What do you think?

- "Da Bus"

PS. Got my decals today.. They came out great!

I got that half round a long time ago and the package is long gone.

I measured it with my calipers and it comes out to 0.020" high and 0.040" wide.

I just had it laying around and that was the last of it I used on my cone.

Take the cone to the hobby shop and just pick something from the Plastruct display that "looks right".

Compared to the original cone it really should be a thicker half round.

It's interesting that you should be doing this build. I've also started on building a Viper model. I don't plan to go with the round fuselage -I'm currently drawing cross-sections of the hull to try to get closer to the original shape. It should be fun.

The BSG Viper has always been one of my favorite Sci-Fi models and always wanted to build one. This projects looks very interesting and will follow it to its conclusion.

I saw the remake of the show and immediately fell in love with the new Viper. While I was contemplating making a rocket version of the new Viper someone else on TRF set up a build thread on a Viper MKII. That got me going. I made some of my own mods to the build and came up with this. I call it the Viper MKII LN... LN for "Long Nose". Completely scratchbuild... CA re-enforced cardstock for the front section and cockpit. Flew once on a C11. Recently I started to make a bigger version of it but I wanted to make the body out of balsa with a BT55 as a core BT and fly it on a "C" cluster...

Keep those pictures comming because I want to see this project to completion. Thanks Sandman for sharing!

Uncle Mike has 3 bit they aren't cheap.

http://us.ebid.net/perl/auction.cgi...0204&mo=auction

It may be cheaper to buy a Der Red Max kit.

Gees! I thought that would be an easy cone to get.

Last resort is SEMROC, they have a balsa version but it's $9.00.

I'd much rather pay the $9 for the Semroc turned balsa cone before I would pay $6.75 (plus $6 shipping) for a PNC60AH that has about 19 cents worth of plastic.
I wouldn't pay $6.75 for the plastic cone even if it was shipped for FREE like Semroc ALWAYS does !

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.

plastic cone $6.75 plus $6 shipping= $12.75

SEMROC balsa cone $9.00 plus free shipping = $9.00

That would be cheaper.

Of course I would never buy just "one thing from SEMROC.

Oh, wait!!! you need some ST-18 body tube (I get the long one and cut them)

and some BT-60 and some BT-50 and centering rings.

Launch lugs for the guns (get some of the series 2 tubes 0.26" is close enough to 1/4").

Or 1/4" launch lugs

Some 3/16" launch lugs

Say should I just write up a SEMROC bill of materials and you guys can just copy/paste it into your SEMROC shopping carts.
