Are there any space/military programs in the world whose launch vehicles/weapons anyone here feels are under-represented in model rocketry? I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this topic has come up in the past...

There was a poll a while back with regard to scale model subjects. These were divided into military, research, and manned with appropriate division by US or non-US. It was under the Vendors section I think.

Indonesia's. Their space agency LAPAN (see: www.lapan.go.id ) has developed numerous sounding rockets and missiles (LAPAN's technology development work is unabashedly "dual-use") from 70 mm to 420 mm in diameter, and they are also developing what may be the world's smallest satellite launch vehicle, which will use their RX-420 and RX-320 rocket motors in a clustered & staged configuration. All of LAPAN's vehicles would make great scale model rocket kits. Below are links to pictures of and information on their vehicles:

For that matter, we don't even see very many scale model kits of Soviet/Russian missiles and research (sounding) rockets. Historic space launch vehicles, for sure, but not much else, and not even much in the way of current boosters besides the Soyuz.

No ISRO (Indian Space Agency) stuff or even much from JAXA either.

The JAXA (formerly ISAS) SS-520 (see: http://www.isas.ac.jp/e/enterp/rock...ing/ss520.shtml ) would make a *very* nice scale model--it could even have a gap-staged upper stage that (being finless) could be spin-stabilized. Peter Alway included plans and fin patterns for the S-520 (the single-stage predecessor to the SS-520) in his book "Scale Bash." The Russian MR-1 Meteo liquid propellant meteorological rocket, the ISRO (Indian) Rohini RH-200, RH-300 & RH-560 sounding rockets, and the ISRO SLV-3, ASLV, PSLV & GSLV satellite launch vehicles would all make interesting scale models. A PSLV kit could be customized, being built either with or without its solid rocket boosters as the full-scale PSLV is configured.

The thing about building rockets and missiles from the US (many), Canada (Black Brants), Britain (Black Knight, Thunderbird), France (Exocet), Germany (Aggregate series), etc. is that they are instantly recognizable to your fellow rocketeers. The more knowledgeable among them may know the rockets so well that their main interest is in how well your particular version represents the prototype. That won't be the case with most of these less-frequently built rockets, at least until they become better known, so everyone at the launch will mostly just have to take your word for it.

Kitting is market assessment. To your point, if it is not known to "a resonable buyer", it will not sell. All else is wishful thinking. Why is it that I can sell 35 Pershing 1a models while an R-5 Vertikal is a one of? I was really surprised when Fliskits came out with the Thunderbird, very happy to see it, but surprised nonetheless. Now, about that Bloodhound Jim!?!?

Well, I wasn't even thinking about kits there. I was assuming that the discussion was about individual scratch-built scale projects. Most true-scale model rockets are built from scratch. Individual projects don't have to take the market into account. If I wanted to build a GSLV, what would the kit market have to do with it? If scale modelers were dependent upon the kit market, then there are many rockets and missiles from the USA that would never get built, let alone any from smaller agencies around the world.

Are you a vendor?

Yes, I was interested in what would interest other BAR's for scratch-builds.
I expect the private guys to have more stuff for us to work from, as well.
And yes, the idea of righteous assessment by fellow BARS would always be welcome, and probably more to the point.
