I throw my pennies at the end of each day into a large coffee can.
Once I get a couple of those cans full, I pay the percentage and dump them into one of those "CoinStar" machines to get rid of them.
I never intentionally carry pennies and have despised them for decades.

I guess I do the unmanly thing - when I pay for something, I reach in my right, front, pants pocket, grab a handful of change, and see if I can do anything to reduce the mass of metal in my pocket. And that includes dropping some brownies

Y'all are right that they're hardly worth the effort - can one financially justify the work and effort required to bend over and pick up a penny from the sidewalk? - but I still use 'em like I did 40 years ago

What I trieds to say originally is that you can go to the discussion locations I originally mentioned and read the discussions instead of trying to recreate them here on a rocktery forum.

You can read plenty of false "facts" in these discussions presented by people with nothing to back them up and you can read the actual facts posted to refute the falsehoods.

Simply Googling for a negative will not produce the true facts.

I went to the forum. I saw no proof that everyone had rather use dollar coins than bills. I know this much. I have never been given dollar coins as change when purchasing an item at any location in the US in my life. That includes about 15 states. I did get a couple of loonies in Canada, though.

The only time I have gotten the $1 dollar coins as change is from vending and postal stamp machines that will take $5 and $10 bills. Any change over $1 is given in the $1 coins. Much easier for a vending machine to dispense coins than bills. I think the $1 coins are kinda neat, but am indifferent as to whether or not we have a real need for them. They MUST be more costly to produce than paper $1 bills.

I have on idea on cost of production.

I see only one distinct advantage to a dollar coin, that they would be harder to counterfeit. Edit: Make that two...I forgot about durability until I saw the above post.

The problem is that those advantages aren't issues for the average Joe on the street who has to tote them around in his pocket.
